the state.

❖ Evidence shows that the Ohio Valley was inhabited by
native people as early as 13,000 BC.
❖ On February 19, 1803: US President Thomas Jefferson
signed an act of Congress that approved Ohio's
boundaries and constitution.
❖ The United States created the Northwest Territory under
the Northwest Ordinance of 1787.
❖ During the 18th century the French set up a system of
trading posts to control the fur trade in the region of
Ohio.
