Germany currently generates 22.7% of its energy from nuclear power and has 17 nuclear power stations, though some have been turned off since 2011 following the Fukushima disaster in Japan. A 2010 law had extended the operating time of nuclear power stations but was revoked after 3 months in 2011 due to safety concerns, and Germany now plans to phase out nuclear power completely due to many public protests against its use.
