I like to share the courage with my fellow homoeopaths, so that they can confidently
prescribe the indicated acute medicine and handle the situation. Homoeopathy is not
complementary medicine but it is an Alternative medicine to the conventional chemicals
and we can do this by adopting proper methodology and thereby offering fast relief to
our patients during their acute suffering, as well.

(1) ACIDITY (ACUTE): COMPARATIVE MATERIA MEDICA:-
(A) ACID SULPH:
i) AETIOLOGY:- (a) Alcohol+++ (long continued indulgence to wine / spirits
+++). (b) Dyspepsia.
ii) CHARACTER:- (a) Acid risings. (b) Sour eructation  sets teeth on
edge. (c) Water = coldness of stomach. (d) Aversion: smell of coffee;
desire: fresh food. (e) Nausea with chilliness. (f) Stools: Chopped, saffron
yellow colour, sour smelling.
iii) MODALITIES:- (a) Aggravation: < Touch, pressure. < Morning. < Drinking
cold water. < Wine & spirits. (b) Ameliorations: > Rest.
iv) CONCOMITANT AND ASSOCIATED SYMPTOMS:- (a) Debility. (b)
Impatient. (c) Hot flushes.
v) PRESCRIBING POINTS:- (a) Aetiology: Alcohol +++ (long continued
indulgence to wine / spirits +++). (b) Character: Sour eructation  sets
teeth on edge. Aversion: smell of coffee; desire: fresh food. (c)

(B) CINCHONA OFFICINALIS:
i) AETIOLOGY:- (a) Ill effects of tea +++. (b) Milk and milk products. (c)
Fruits. (d) Alcohol (Ref. Dr. Clarke). (e) Bad (spoiled) meat or fish. (f) Beer.
ii) CHARACTER:- (a) Belching of bitter fluid  regurgitation  No relief. (b)
Bitter taste+++. (c) Food tastes salty. (d) Nash’s trio of tympanitic and
flatulent medicines (affects whole abdomen). (e) Hungry (+++) without
appetite: eats  remains undigested  after a meal = Fullness of
stomach.
iii) MODALITIES:- (a) Aggravation: < Fruits; < after eating < light touch to
abdomen. < Smoking. (b) Ameliorations: Bloatedness > by movement. >
bending double. > Hard pressure.
iv) CONCOMITANT AND ASSOCIATED SYMPTOMS:- (a) Debility (b)
Depression. (c) Puffiness & oedema.
v) PRESCRIBING POINTS:- Aetiology: Ill effects of tea +++. Fruits.
Character: Bitter taste +++. Hungry (+++) without appetite: eats 
remains undigested  after a meal = Fullness of stomach. Modalities: (a)
Aggravation:- < Fruits. (b) Amelioration:- Bloatedness > by movement.
vi) POTENCY:- Q. (5 drops  in ½ cup of luke warm water  6-8 hourly
SOS x as & when necessary  stop soon improvement ensues), Also
6C & 30C.
(C) CORNUS FLORIDA:
i) AETIOLOGY:- (a) Abuse of quinine. (b) Malaria: N.B.W.S Acidity.
ii) CHARACTER:- (a) Distressing acidic heartburn. (b) Nausea  vomiting
 bilious diarrhoea. (c) Old cases of dyspepsia  Acid regurgitation
(+++). (d) Desire: Sour++, pickles, cakes. (e) Slow digestion. (f) Ineffectual
urging for stool.
iii) MODALITIES:- (a) Aggravation: < soon after eating.
iv) CONCOMITANT AND ASSOCIATED SYMPTOMS:- (a) Debility &
Drowsiness. (b) Neuralgic pain in arms. (c) Night sweats.
v) PRESCRIBING POINTS:- Aetiology: Abuse of quinine. Malaria: N.B.W.S.
Character: Distressing acidic heartburn. Old cases of dyspepsia  Acid
regurgitation (+++). Desire: Sour++.
vi) POTENCY:- Q. (5 drops  in ½ cup of luke warm water  6-8 hourly 
SOS  as & when necessary  stop soon improvement ensues), 30C.
(D) LACTIC ACID:
i) AETIOLOGY:- (a) Alcohol+++ (long continued indulgence to wine / spirits
+++). (b) Dyspepsia.
ii) CHARACTER:- (a) Copious salivation (+++). (b) Water-brush (++). (c)
Hunger (+++)  salivation (+++)  constant nausea (+++)  >> by eating.
(d) All edible substances  acidifies  hot & bitter eructation. (e)
Plug sensation in throat. (f) Burning: Mouth  to  stomach.
iii) MODALITIES:- (a) Aggravation: < smoking, Coffee. (b) Ameliorations: >
by eating. > by eructation.
iv) CONCOMITANT AND ASSOCIATED SYMPTOMS:- (a) Acute gastro-
enteritis. (b) Morning sickness. (c) Limbs feels chilly.

v) PRESCRIBING POINTS:- Aetiology: Acidity with morning sickness &/or
diabetes. Character: Copious salivation (+++). Water-brush (++).
Hunger (+++)  salivation (+++)  constant nausea (+++)  >> by eating.
Plug sensation in throat. Burning: Mouth  to  stomach. Modalities:
(a) Aggravation:- < Smoking, Coffee. (b) Amelioration:- > by eating.
vi) POTENCY:- 6C, 30C.
(E) NATRUM PHOS:
i) AETIOLOGY:- (a) Sugar. (b) Milk. (c) Fat foods+++. (d) Bitter foods. (e)
Acidity in children fed with excess of milk and sugar.
ii) CHARACTER:- (a) Lump in throat  sour vomiting. (b) Yellow, creamy,
coating at the back part of tongue. (c) Desire: Strong tasting foods,
eggs, fried fish, beer. (d) Aversion: Bread & butter. (e) Goneness in
stomach & abdomen < after eating. (f) Colic with acidity.
iii) MODALITIES:- (a) Aggravation: << Fat food. < after eating. (b)
Ameliorations: > from beer.
iv) CONCOMITANT AND ASSOCIATED SYMPTOMS:- (a) Colic. (b) Greenish
diarrhoea. (c) Hives.
v) PRESCRIBING POINTS:- Aetiology: Fat foods +++. Acidity in children fed
with excess of milk and sugar. Character: Lump in throat sour vomiting.
Desire: Strong tasting foods, eggs. Aversion: Bread & butter. Colic with
acidity. Modalities: (a) Aggravation:- << Fat food. (b) Amelioration:- > from
beer.
vi) POTENCY:- 6x tablets (Bio-chemic tissue salts: 3-4 tablets – in ¼ cup of
luke warm water  6-8 hourly  SOS  as & when necessary  stop
soon improvement ensues), 30C.
(F) ROBINIA:
i) AETIOLOGY:- (a) Excess of starch. (b) Acidity of children. (c) From fat &
flatulent foods e.g. Cabbage, turnip, raw fruits etc.
ii) CHARACTER:- (a) Associated with frontal headache (+++). (b) Acrid
(+++) eructation. (c) Acrid & greenish vomiting  colic  flatulence 
burning pains in stomach  constipation. (d) Sour (+++) eructation 
vomiting of sour (+++) fluid. (e) Distension (+++) of stomach  flatulent
colic.
iii) MODALITIES:- (a) Aggravation: < lying down (Ref. Dr. Clarke). < Fat,
gravies (curries), flatulent food, < cabbage, raw fruits, ice cream. (b)
Ameliorations: > by passing flatus.
iv) CONCOMITANT AND ASSOCIATED SYMPTOMS:- (a) Frontal headache.
(b) Sour stool & sour perspiration. (c) Colic.
v) PRESCRIBING POINTS:- Aetiology: From fat & flatulent foods e.g.,
Cabbage, turnip, raw fruit etc. Character: Associated with frontal
headache (+++). Acrid (+++) eructation. Sour (+++) eructation  vomiting
of sour (+++) fluid. Distension (+++) of stomach flatulent colic.
Modalities: (a) Aggravation:- < Fat, gravies, flatulent food, < cabbage, raw
fruit, ice cream. (b) Amelioration:- > by passing flatus.
vi) POTENCY:- Q. (5 drops  in ½ cup of luke warm water  6-8 hourly 
SOS  as & when necessary  stop soon improvement ensues), 6C.

CLINICAL TIPS:
Atropin 3x Trituration: Hyperacidity; pyrosis. 1/4th tsf (tea-spoon) in half cup of luke
warm water X 8 hourly X S.O.S.
Orexine tannate Q; Hyperacidity; deficient and slow digestion. 10 drops  Twice daily
 S.O.S.
(2) ASTHMA-ACUTE EXACERBATIONS- STATUS ASTHMATICUS:
BRONCHO-SPASM- CLINICAL MATERIA MEDICA:-
(A) AMBROSIA:
i) CHARACTER:- Watery coryza, sneezing, watery discharge. Respiratory
tract in its entire length stopped up (stuffed up +++). Irritation of
trachea and bronchial tubes, with asthmatic attacks, wheezy cough.
ii) POTENCY:- Q, 6C.
(B) AMYL. NITROSUM:
i) CHARACTER:- Dyspnoea and asthmatic feelings. Great oppression and
fullness of chest; spasmodic, suffocative cough. Precordial anxiety.
Tumultuous action of heart. Pain and constriction around heart.
Fluttering at slightest excitement. Asthmatic feeling in larynx and
trachea with desire to eructate.
ii) MODALITIES:- Agg. warm room. Amel. open air (must have fresh air).
iii) POTENCY:- Q, 6C.
(C) ANTIM ARSENICOSUM:
i) CHARACTER:- Found useful in emphysema with excessive dyspnoea
and cough, much mucous secretion. Cardiac asthma, sense of
weakness. A lung tonic.
ii) MODALITIES:- Agg. eating; lying down.
iii) POTENCY:- 3x Trit., 6C.
(D) ARALIA RACEMOSA:
i) CHARACTER:- Asthma with wheezing. Inspiration is difficult. Right
lung: affected. A foreign-body sensation. Wheezing in throat.
Constriction in chest and throat with a sensation of foreign body in the
throat. Inspiration is difficult than expiration. Expectoration is salty
and hot.
ii) MODALITIES:- Agg. At 2 A.M. Lying agg. < after lying,.
iii) POTENCY:- Q, 6C, 30C.
(E) ASPIDOSPERMA:
i) CHARACTER:- Want of breath during exertion is the guiding
symptom. Useful in Cardiac asthma. It is the Digitalis of the lungs :
broncho-dilatation.
ii) POTENCY:- Q, 6C, 30C.
(F) BLATTA OCCIDENTALIS:
i) CHARACTER:- Doctrine of Signature: Cockroach lives in cracks and
crevices; in damp shady places, therefore it is a wonderful medicine for
Asthma for people who lives or works in damp basements, cellars,

etc.; damp dwelling. Aggravation from damp and rainy weather.
Asthma with bronchitis, especially indicated after Arsenic when this is
insufficient. Acts best, in stout, or corpulent persons. Seems to act better
on patients who have a tendency to obesity. Much pus like mucus.
ii) MODALITIES:- Aggravation: Damp, wet rainy weather; change of
weather.
(G) CALC. OVORUM / OVI GALLINAE PELLICULA:
i) CHARACTER:- Egg Vaccine for Asthma. Asthma due to susceptibility
of the protein substance in eggs. Associated symptoms: backache (as
if broken into two).
iii) POTENCY:- 6x Trit.
(H) CASSIA SOPHERA (SENNE SOPHERA) (KALKASUNDE):
i) CHARACTER:- Asthma of the patient suffering from skin disease.
Skin disease (like dandruff, eczema, itching, ringworm etc.) are
associated with bronchial troubles. More the cough (in asthmatic
patients) and more it is a painful and distressing cough, better it is
indicated. Asthmatic symptoms with rattling of mucus in the throat but
not much expulsion. Concomitant symptom for this medicine is pain in
joints.
ii) MODALITIES:- Aggravates during rainy and winter season. Agg. later
part of the evening and past and mid-night, towards early morning.
Asthmatic breathing < night and lying down, cough agg. morning,
warmth. Amel. by sitting up. amel. bending forward.
(I) DIOSCOREA VILLOSA:
i) CHARACTER:- Chest does not seem to expand on breathing, short
winded.
ii) MODALITIES:- Agg. early morning, 2 a.m. Amel. open air.
iii) POTENCY:- Q
(J) DULCAMARA:
i) CHARACTER:- Allergic bronchospasm from cat’s hair. Winter
coughs, teasing. Asthma with dyspnoea. Loose, rattling cough; worse wet
weather. Must cough a long time to expel phlegm. Cough after physical
exertion.
ii) MODALITIES:- Agg. at night; from cold in general, damp, rainy weather.
Amel. from moving about, external warmth.
iii) POTENCY:- Q, 12C, 30C, 200C.
(K) ERIODICTYON:
i) CHARACTER:- Bronchitis followed by tubercular chough. Profuse
nocturnal sweat and spasm > by expectoration. Cough after influenza.
Past history of recurrent pneumonia, recurrent bronchitis  lung
vitality weak  Easily catches cold  Asthma. Lots of mucus 
Rattling.
ii) MODALITIES:- Agg. Afternoon. Amel. from expectoration.

(L) EUCALYPTUS:
i) CHARACTER:- Dr. Kim says that “Eucalyptus” oil in drop doses given in
a tablespoon of water relieves bronchial asthma in the night. Asthma,
with great dyspnoea and palpitation. Moist asthma. Expectoration
white, thick mucus. Bronchitis in the aged. Bronchorrhoea. Profuse
expectoration of offensive muco-pus.
(M) ICHTHYOLUM:
i) CHARACTER:- Winter cough  Dry teasing cough  Asthma in old
people. Bronchiectasis and phthisis. Bronchitis, especially of the aged.
ii) POTENCY:- 6x Trit., 30C
(N) JUSTICIA ADHATODA (VASAKA):
i) CHARACTER:- Whooping cough like asthmatic attacks. Tightness
across chest. Cough with sneezing. Paroxysmal cough with suffocative
obstruction of respiration.
ii) POTENCY:- Q, 6C; 30C.
(O) KALIUM NITRICUM:
i) CHARACTER:- Valuable in cardiac asthma, with excessive dyspnoea,
dropsical condition of the whole body > drinking sips of water. Asthma,
with excessive dyspnoea, nausea, dull stitches, and burning in chest.
Dyspnoea so great that breath cannot be held long enough to
drink, though thirsty. Chest feels constricted. Oppression worse in
morning. Sour-smelling expectoration. Expectoration of clotted blood,
after hawking mucus.
ii) MODALITIES:- Agg. wine, draft of air 3 a.m., lying with head low, motion.
Amel. lying down, lying on right side, drinking sips of water.
iii) POTENCY:- 6x Trit., 30C.
(P) LINUM USI:
i) CHARACTER:- Severe allergic asthma. Intense irritation in the nose
and eyes.
(Q) LOBELIA INFLATA:
i) CHARACTER:- Dyspnoea from constriction of chest. Asthma; attacks,
with weakness, felt in pit of stomach and preceded by prickling all
over. Lobelia syphilitica. Great oppression in lower part of chest, as if air
could not reach there. Pain in chest under short ribs of left side. Every
rapid movement = dyspnoea and suffocation. Going up or down
stairs.
ii) MODALITIES:- Agg. dyspnoea; evening and night. Symptoms generally >
afternoon, Amel. by rapid walking.

(R) LUFFA OPERCULATA:
i) CHARACTER:- With allergic rhinitis, frontal (6x potency) headaches <
stuffy room, nose blocked, frequent spasmodic sneezing < cold;
mornings, itching of the nose. Watery discharge wheezing with
coarse rales and basal ronchi. Spasmodic cough with scanty sputum
< dust; fog; cold breeze > heat, covering the head.
ii) POTENCY:- 6x Trit., 6C, 30C.
(S) OCIMUM SANCTUM (TULSI):
i) CHARACTER:- Asthmatic attack, wheezing and rattling sound is felt
in the chest (very useful in asthma of infants and children).
Forgetfulness is a special keynote symptom of this drug; the patient
forgets to perform his usual duties, and commits mistakes in talking. It
is more especially indicated if diarrhoea and cough and cold be present
with fever.
(T) PASSIFLORA INCARNATA:
i) CHARACTER:- Asthma, atonicity & insomnia is the triad of
selecting this medicine. An efficient anti-spasmodic.
(U) POTHOS FOETIDUS:
i) CHARACTER:- For asthmatic complaints, which is caused and are made
worse from inhaling any dust. Difficult, troublesome respiration;
oppression with perspiration. Anguish with oppression. Allergic
broncho-spasm from dust; fur; dog fur/ hairs etc. Not much mucus.
Allergic wheeze.
ii) MODALITIES:- Agg. From dust; Amel. open air. Asthmatic symptoms are
better by passing stool.
(V) PULMO VULPIS:
i) CHARACTER:- Persistent shortness of breath. Asthma : better sitting up,
bending forward. Shortness of breath < by slightest motion.
ii) POTENCY:- 3x Trit., 30C.
(W) SAMBUCUS NIGRA:
i) CHARACTER:- Humid asthma. Chronic asthma having attacks of
suffocation and breathing through the mouth. The relief was followed by
a profuse flow of urine which carried off a large amount of dropsical
effusion in legs and abdomen. Asthmatic cough associated with
profuse perspiration. Suffocative cough, coming on about midnight,
with crying and dyspnoea. Cannot expire, attack passes off-then
repeated again.
ii) MODALITIES:- Agg. from sleep, during rest, after eating fruit, lying
down, motion, uncovering, dry cold air, after midnight (cough
aggravates). Amel. sitting up in bed, motion.

(X) SENEGA:
i) CHARACTER:- Great soreness of walls of chest < during repose. Great
accumulation of mucus, rattling, wheezing, difficult breathing. Asthma:
Oppressed on ascending; Old asthmatics with congestive attacks;
Difficulty in raising tough profuse mucus, especially in the aged.
Cough: Dry & hacking; Chest: Sore; Oppression from accumulation of
clear mucus, difficult to expel. Weight & pressure as if lungs were
forced back to spine. Burning, rattling & wheezing in chest.
ii) MODALITIES:- Aggravation night, during rest. Aggravation in open air.
(Y) SOLIDAGO VIRGA:
i) CHARACTER:- It's an expectorant. Periodical asthma with nightly
dysuria. Asthmatic symptoms with kidney complaints. Expectoration:
Profuse, Blood tinged.
(Z) TELA ARANEARUM:
i) CHARACTER:- Dry asthma, harassing coughs. Symptoms come on
suddenly with cool, clammy skin. Numbness of hands and legs when
at rest. Continued chilliness. Nervous asthma and sleeplessness.
ii) POTENCY:- Q, 6C.
(3) ) ACUTE OSTEO-ARTHRITIS (LESSER KNOWNS):
CLINICAL MATERIA MEDICA:-
(A) ACTEA SPICATA:-
i) LOCATION:- Suppressed eruptions.
ii) CHARACTER OF PAIN:- (i) Pains in small joints of wrist, fingers,
ankles, toes: tearing & tingling in type. (ii) Swelling of joints from
slight fatigue. (iii) Wrist: swollen, red.
iii) MODALITIES:- (i) Worse any motion. (ii) Pain worse from touch &
motion.
iv) PRESCRIBING TIPS:- Character of Pain: Swelling of joints from slight
fatigue.
v) POTENCY:- (i) 6C. (ii) 30C.
(B) BENZOIC ACID:-
i) LOCATION:- (i) Small joints. (ii) Knees.
ii) CHARACTER OF PAIN:- (i) Cracking of joints. (ii) Zigzag changing of
pains. (iii) Nodes and ganglion of wrist. (iv) Bunion of great toe. (v)
Rheumatic pains and gout: nodes painful (+++). (vi) Swelling of
wrist, knees, small joints. Cracking of joints. Zigzag changing of pains.
Bunion of great toe. Cracking of joints. Nodes and ganglion of wrist,
painful (+++). It has the capability of bringing the Uric Acid level
down (use tincture: 10 drops....3 times daily for 6--8 weeks).
iii) MODALITIES:- ((i) Aggravation: < motion. (ii) < open air; < night. (iii) > by
heat.

iv) PRESCRIBING TIPS:- Character of Pain: (i) Cracking of joints. (ii) Zigzag
changing of pains. (iii) Nodes and ganglion of wrist.
v) POTENCY:- (i) 1x liquid. (ii) 6C. (iii) 30C.
(C) CALCAREA FLUORICA:
i) CHARACTER:- Pain lower back, with burning. Degenerative
osteoarthritis. Chronic lumbago.
ii) MODALITIES:- Agg. first motion; rest, change of weather; new moon &
full moon, damp weather. Amel. continued motion; from heat; rubbing.
iii) POTENCY:- 6x Tabs.; 200C.
(D) COLCHICINE:
i) CHARACTER:- Convulsive jerking of right hand; rheumatic fever, gout,
endo and pericarditis, pleurisy, arthritis deformans in early stages;
intense pain of rheumatism.
ii) POTENCY:- 3x Trit.
(E) COTYLEDON UMBILICUS:
i) CHARACTER:- Aching in joints. Skin sensitive, rubbing of trousers
causes an acute sting. Legs and arms feel heavy and sore. Sciatica, with
aching in back and thighs. Lack of control of joint. Stagger as if drunk.
Climacteric troubles. Breathing, chest oppressed with choking fullness
in throat.
ii) MODALITIES:-Agg. morning, evening.
iii) POTENCY:- Q, 6C
(F) CAULOPHYLLUM:-
(1) LOCATION:- (i) Small joints. (ii) Fingers: stiff (+++). (iii) Lumbago.
(2) CHARACTER OF PAIN:- (i) Small Joints : aching. (ii) Small Joints:
erratic pain. (iii) Small joints: stiffness. (iv) Intermittent pain. (v)
Paroxysmal pain. (vi) Spasmodic pain. (vii) Cutting pain on closing the
hands. (viii) Internal trembling with weakness (++) (Ref. Nash).
(3) MODALITIES:- Aggravation: < night.
(4) PRESCRIBING TIPS:- Character of Pain: (i) Small Joints: Erratic pain. (ii)
Small joints: Stiffness. (iii) Intermittent pain. (iv) Paroxysmal pain.
(5) POTENCY:- (i) Q. (ii) 30C.
(G) EUCALYPTUS:
i) CHARACTER:- Nodular swellings over metacarpal and metatarsal joints.
Stiff, weary sensation. Pricking sensation, followed by painful aching.
Rheumatic pains; worse at night, walking or carrying anything.
ii) POTENCY:- Q, 6C, 30C
(H) EUPATORIUM PERFOLIATUM:
i) CHARACTER:- Periodicity is marked. Excessive soreness run through
the remedy. Undue sleepiness & yawning. Pains: aching & sore.
Bone pains of all descriptions. Chilliness predominates.
ii) MODALITIES:- Agg. periodically, open air. Amel. warmth.
iii) POTENCY:- Q, 6C, 30C

(I) FRANCISCEA UNIFLORA:
i) CHARACTER:- Rheumatic pains in lower extremities. Anti-Syphilitic
remedy Notable rise of uric acid. Chronic stiffness of the muscles.
It has the capability of bringing the Uric Acid level down (use
tincture: 10 drops....3 times daily for 6--8 weeks).
Amel. by sweating.
(J) GAULTHERIA:
i) CHARACTER:- Inflammatory rheumatism + Nervous depression +
Gastralgia. Uncontrollable appetite, notwithstanding irritable
stomach.
(K) GETTYSBURG WATER:

i) CHARACTER:- Nervously run-down, tired, back-achy females.
