Blockchain, a technology which has garnered the attention globally has expanded from being just the underlying technology for cryptocurrency transaction to be the underpinning technology for myriads of other applications. The rise of this technology can be deciphered from the fact that many big names in the industry like IBM, Microsoft, Amazon, Walmart are researching ways to use blockchain to improve their business operations.

Connecting innovation leaders: At a time when companies face new challenges in data management and security, Blockchain is emerging as a way to let companies make and verify transactions on a network instantaneously without a central authority. Today, more than 40 top financial institutions and a growing number of government institutions and firms across industries are experimenting with distributed ledger technology as a secure and transparent way to digitally track the ownership of assets and manage records, a move that could speed up transactions and cut costs while lowering the risk of fraud.

Blockchain is an emerging technology that has captured the attention of the financial experts, the media and the technical enthusiasts. In this talk we take a look at the technology; how it works, why you should consider it for your business and how it's given life to cryptocurrencies.
The Blockchain is a technology created with the bitcoin, which has become the world's 8th currency in terms of amounts exchanged. The Blockchain brings with it new promises of innovation in all sectors, but also of disruption of dominant economic models. By taking an interest now in its potential applications, we can be one step ahead of the next stage of the digital revolution and the advent of a "horizontal" society,
without intermediaries or centralized authority...
The Blockchain is probably set to revolutionize transactions and exchanges; in the same way that Internet enabled peer-to-peer communication, in the years to come the Blockchain will provide the means for peer-to-peer transactions under a decentralized and autonomous rationale.
How can blockchain reinvent the events industryMelissa Lou
Blockchain technology has recently been at the forefront of tech news. Is it really capable of revolutionising the world? Or is it just another bubble that has already started its downfall? There are many uses of the blockchain for a wide range of industries that often go unheard of because of blockchain's heavy association with cryptocurrencies. One might be surprised to find out that this technology could one day change the way we plan events and benefit both buyers and sellers alike. Melissa Lou, co-founder of Delegate speaks at ITB Asia 2018 and unravels this often misunderstood technology and gives a brief overview of what the events industry could be with the power of blockchain.

In spite of the overheatedly debated topic of cryptocurrencies, where, it seems, the main focus was put on the sharply rising or falling prices of Bitcoin and the likes, the underlying technology – blockchain – continues to attract attention, now also across the transport & logistics domain. Luckily, one doesn’t need to be a nerdy tech geek to understand this, at first glance confusing, innovation. The purpose of blockchain is to allow digital information to be distributed – but not copied or freely modified. This way data integrity is preserved. In other words, all parties involved in the chain share the same view.
Blockchain, whose origins are blended (and often blurred) with the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, is a disruptive technology with the potential to transform how goods and services are exchanged over the internet. Blockchain allows complex transactions to be carried out transparently and securely, on a distributed interaction model that ousts multiple established intermediaries, eradicating the control held by central authorities in traditional methods of digital transaction.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

2. WHAT IS
BLOCKCHAIN?
Blockchain technology is the
backbone of bitcoin. If you’re
still unsure about what exactly
blockchain is, it’s like a digital
ledger of transactions, deals and
contracts represented in the
form of digital asset. Everyone
owns this ledger, and everyone
contributes to it. Blockchain is a
foundational technology with
the potential to create new
foundations for our economic
and social systems. Soon, the
finance industry could be
dominated by blockchain and
cryptocurrencies.
3. Right now, blockchain is still in the
very early stages of its development.
Think of it in terms of the dot-com
bubble of the 1990s. It’s currently at
the beginning of the boom but is still
missing some critical components
needed for it to really explode and
take off, such as key infrastructure
and tooling to build applications. If
these needs aren’t addressed, it could
lead the blockchain boom to burst,
just like the dot-com bubble did.
BLOCKCHAIN
NOW
4. ACCELERATIN
G FACTORS
But, blockchain holds a lot of
promise, which may
accelerate its adoption.
Enterprises are excited about
its potential and many, like
IBM, are taking over
leadership in the space. The
three factors that are
accelerating the adoption of
this technology are data
resiliency, transparency and
new business models.
5. SETBACKS
On the opposite hand, speculation, stage of
development and unproven value are all factors that
are preventing some companies from utilizing
blockchain. But, that isn’t stopping hundreds of
companies from doing interesting things in the
space, like Ethereum, Ripple and Circle.
6. DISRUPTIONS
Blockchain will disrupt many industries. The top three sectors
that are most susceptible to this are financial transactions,
micro-payments and banking. Because blockchain provides a
secure way to send digital assets without a third-party, it
eliminates the need for a bank. Blockchain could make it
possible to facilitate faster payments between parties at a lower
fee than a bank could offer.
7. While blockchain hasn’t changed the
world yet, it holds a lot of potential to
completely change the way many major
industries operate.
HOW FAR
WILL IT
GO?
