The new European Union rules and standards known as MiFID 2 and MiFIR will be implemented on March 3, 2017. MiFID 2 establishes directives with rules and standards while MiFIR contains 150 articles as a regulation. Together, MiFID 2 and MiFIR expand the scope of regulation beyond just stocks to also include commodities and derivatives markets.

3 March 2017 (implementation date) - The MiFID II rules and standards of the
European Union will first be implemented on the 3rd of March 2017.
