My Carolina Life
By: Brittany S. Lopez
My name is Brittany
Lopez. I am 28 years
old. I moved to
Garysburg, NC from
Jacksonville, FL in Jan
of 2011.
Footnote: I am currently in anA.A. degree
program. I intend to transfer to Wesleyan
in Jan 2017 to pursue a B.S. in Accounting.
I met my Mr. Right (Eduardo Lopez) in November
of 2011.This is when my life took a turn for the
better.
He began to pursue me in
February of 2012.
We were a whirlwind romance
and got married in April of
2012.Why waste time?
We quickly grew into our first home and 9 months
later we blended our family in January of 2013.
I became a stay at home mom and a couponer to
offset my lack of income when I got pregnant. I
found a passion for budgeting and making our
money stretch. (Hence my career goal of being an
accountant.)
I got so good at managing our household on one income
that we were able to rent this house in February 2014 for
even cheaper than the first micro house. Of course we
had to put in a lot ofTLC first.
After the little one turned 1, it was time for me to try to
get back to my goals. I started working part time as a
rural carrier for the Post Office in June 2014. I had an
epiphany around Jan 2015 and started making real plans
to get my career goals started. I had a life planned out
for my family and it was time to work on getting us
there.
Khamaya Khayla
I submitted an application soon after that for an indoor position
in the Post Office. I’m not very religious but I prayed and made a
promise to God and myself, that if I passed that test after 4 days
of driving back and forth to a training in Raleigh, NC, that I
would not waste any more time enrolling to finish my degree.
On my way back from Raleigh
after passing my test!
I am the only employee in my
office 4 hours a day, 6 days a
week. It’s so little!
All that being said I am
finally achieving my
personal goals after
bringing my two
beautiful girls into this
world and getting
them settled in. I am
not stopping until I
reach my ultimate goal
of purchasing a brand
new home for us.
Hopefully my degree
will help get me there!
Thanks for reading!!!
