This document introduces Colorado artists that will be encountered while giving tours at a museum. It provides handouts and a DVD about Colorado artists, focusing on those from the early Broadmoor Art Academy. Volunteers are asked to research two artists represented in the Kirkland Museum and write a short paragraph about their life and work or discuss them with staff.

1. This module will introduce you to some of the common names in Colorado art that you
will hear regularly while working in the museum. Please don’t think that you need
comprehensive knowledge of Colorado artists before you can give a tour. Most of what
you learn in this area you will learn on the job, by tracking down answers to visitor
questions, by reading object labels, and by listening to Hugh.
In this section, I have included some handouts on Colorado artists (please feel free to
keep these) and a DVD featuring artist and collector Tracy Felix lecturing on Colorado
artists, with a particular focus on the early years of the Broadmoor Art Academy.
Module 3 Evaluation:
Please choose 2 artists represented in Kirkland Museum and write a short (1 paragraph)
synopsis of their life and work, or tell about them to a staff member. Please use reliable
resources (feel free to ask us for suggestions) and use your own words—please do not
copy.
