The document discusses the OSI model, which is a standard framework for network communication. It divides network architecture into seven layers: physical, data link, network, transport, session, presentation, and application. Each layer only communicates with the layers directly above and below it and has a specific set of functions. This layered approach makes networks easier to design, troubleshoot, and maintain when changes are made. The physical layer deals with physical connections and bit transmission. The data link layer organizes bits into frames and controls flow. The network layer decides how data moves between networks. Higher layers ensure reliable and secure delivery of data between applications.
types of computer networks, protocols and standardsMidhun Menon
This document defines and classifies computer networks. It discusses how networks allow computers to be interconnected and exchange information. Networks are classified based on their transmission technology (broadcast or point-to-point) and scale (LAN, MAN, WAN). LANs are within a building or campus, MANs cover a city, and WANs span large geographical areas. Wireless networks can connect components or allow communication between devices within range using technologies like Bluetooth or over larger distances using cellular networks. Protocols and standards like TCP/IP and ISO/OSI model govern network communications and interoperability.
Gaming industry today is one of the fastest growing entertainment industries. Game testing is a process of quality control of the software used in games.
Indium, a leading Game Testing Services Company, uses industry-standard testing methods and quality assurance processes to meticulously test video games. Our team keeps an eye out for the issues that can potentially crash or break the game. We would like to break it before the users do! Functional, compliance and compatibility are the main cores of game testing and we have a dedicated team to provide support for the same. The team is also well versed in other aspects of testing like playthrough, multiplayer, regression, smoke, destructive testing, game balancing, integrity checks etc. It’s a standard practice to use checklists / test cases to minimize the amount of ad-hoc testing.
The team works on titles from pre-alpha phase to release candidates. We continue to support games post release for maintenance and patches / DLC / updates. We also assist games with dev testing, focus groups, forum support, community managers and game admins
The document compares the OSI model and the TCP/IP model. The OSI model consists of 7 layers and defines a standardized protocol-independent framework. The TCP/IP model has 4 layers and was developed based on the protocols used for the Internet. Key differences are that OSI has stricter layering while TCP/IP layers are more loosely defined, and TCP/IP focuses on the specific protocols used for Internetworking while OSI aims to be protocol-independent.
The document summarizes the seven layers of the OSI model:
1) Physical layer - responsible for establishing and terminating connections between nodes and media characteristics.
2) Data link layer - handles data transfer through framing and physical addressing.
3) Network layer - manages logical addressing and routing between networks.
4) Transport layer - ensures messages are delivered completely through connection control, flow control and error control.
5) Session layer - establishes and manages connections through dialog control and synchronization.
6) Presentation layer - manages data encryption/compression and translation during exchange.
7) Application layer - supports network applications through APIs and uses services from lower layers.
The document describes the seven-layer OSI model, with each layer responsible for certain network functions. The physical layer transmits raw bits over a transmission medium. The data link layer transmits frames between nodes. The network layer delivers packets from source to destination hosts via routing. The transport layer provides reliable process-to-process message delivery. The session layer establishes and manages communication sessions. The presentation layer handles translation and formatting. The application layer provides services to the user/application.
The document discusses different methods of encoding and modulating digital and analog signals for transmission. It covers digital-to-digital encoding techniques like unipolar, polar, Manchester and differential Manchester encoding. It also discusses analog-to-digital conversion techniques like PAM and PCM. Finally, it discusses analog-to-analog modulation techniques like AM, FM and PM and how they modulate parameters of a carrier signal to transmit an analog signal.
When it is all about ERP solutions, companies typically meet their needs with common ERP solutions like SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft Dynamics. These big players have demonstrated that ERP systems can be either simple or highly comprehensive. This remains true today, but there are new factors to consider, including a promising new contender in the market that’s Odoo. This blog compares Odoo ERP with traditional ERP systems and explains why many companies now see Odoo ERP as the best choice.
What are ERP Systems?
An ERP, or Enterprise Resource Planning, system provides your company with valuable information to help you make better decisions and boost your ROI. You should choose an ERP system based on your company’s specific needs. For instance, if you run a manufacturing or retail business, you will need an ERP system that efficiently manages inventory. A consulting firm, on the other hand, would benefit from an ERP system that enhances daily operations. Similarly, eCommerce stores would select an ERP system tailored to their needs.
Because different businesses have different requirements, ERP system functionalities can vary. Among the various ERP systems available, Odoo ERP is considered one of the best in the ERp market with more than 12 million global users today.
Odoo is an open-source ERP system initially designed for small to medium-sized businesses but now suitable for a wide range of companies. Odoo offers a scalable and configurable point-of-sale management solution and allows you to create customised modules for specific industries. Odoo is gaining more popularity because it is built in a way that allows easy customisation, has a user-friendly interface, and is affordable. Here, you will cover the main differences and get to know why Odoo is gaining attention despite the many other ERP systems available in the market.
Microservice Teams - How the cloud changes the way we workSven Peters
A lot of technical challenges and complexity come with building a cloud-native and distributed architecture. The way we develop backend software has fundamentally changed in the last ten years. Managing a microservices architecture demands a lot of us to ensure observability and operational resiliency. But did you also change the way you run your development teams?
Sven will talk about Atlassian’s journey from a monolith to a multi-tenanted architecture and how it affected the way the engineering teams work. You will learn how we shifted to service ownership, moved to more autonomous teams (and its challenges), and established platform and enablement teams.

Hand Rolled Applicative User ValidationCode KataPhilip Schwarz
Could you use a simple piece of Scala validation code (granted, a very simplistic one too!) that you can rewrite, now and again, to refresh your basic understanding of Applicative operators <*>, <*, *>?
The goal is not to write perfect code showcasing validation, but rather, to provide a small, rough-and ready exercise to reinforce your muscle-memory.
Despite its grandiose-sounding title, this deck consists of just three slides showing the Scala 3 code to be rewritten whenever the details of the operators begin to fade away.
The code is my rough and ready translation of a Haskell user-validation program found in a book called Finding Success (and Failure) in Haskell - Fall in love with applicative functors.

Graspan: A Big Data System for Big Code AnalysisAftab Hussain
We built a disk-based parallel graph system, Graspan, that uses a novel edge-pair centric computation model to compute dynamic transitive closures on very large program graphs.
We implement context-sensitive pointer/alias and dataflow analyses on Graspan. An evaluation of these analyses on large codebases such as Linux shows that their Graspan implementations scale to millions of lines of code and are much simpler than their original implementations.
These analyses were used to augment the existing checkers; these augmented checkers found 132 new NULL pointer bugs and 1308 unnecessary NULL tests in Linux 4.4.0-rc5, PostgreSQL 8.3.9, and Apache httpd 2.2.18.
