SAINT PATRICK’S DAY INTRODUCTION: First and  Second Year  of ESO What do you know about Ireland? Do you Know what is the Irish national party? Every March 17 th , millions of Irish and non-Irish people celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day.    Do you know what is a Leprechaun?  Or a shamrock? Or a pot of gold?  When you have finished of doing this Webquest, you will know them as if you were Irish!
TASK: FIRST PART: Watch the video of the following web page (History of Saint Patrick’s Day) and answer these questions: Which religion did the Irish people took thanks to Saint Patrick? According to a myth, which animals were sent off Ireland by Saint Patrick? For what purpose did Saint Patrick use the shamrock? Why is the festivity of Saint Patrick celebrated on March 17 th ?  In which colonial American city was Saint Patrick’s Day first celebrated? When was Saint Patrick’s Day first celebrated in New York City? What did happen in Ireland during the 1840’s? What colour do the people who celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day wear in USA? What is the traditional Irish meal? TASK SECOND PART: Make a Power Point presentation about what Saint Patrick’s Day is, the history of Saint Patrick, the festivals, parades and events, the typical Irish food, Saint Patrick’s songs…
TASK FINAL TASK: Write an informal letter. You are Irish students and you are going to explain to Spanish students what Saint Patrick’s Day is and how you celebrate Saint Patrick in your high school and city.
PROCESS: Groups of three students. 2 or 3 sessions. One of the three students is the coordinator of the Power Point Presentation.
