In 1985, Rev. Brewster was chosen as an Outstanding Young Woman of the Year in Texarkana and Young Woman of America in 1987. In 2003, she was selected as the recipient of the Texas A & M University Distinguished Alumni Award. She received the Outstanding Educator’s Award in 2004, given by Seta Phi Beta Sorority and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
She is also an active member of Delta Sigma Sorority, Incorporated.

4. Rev. Angela Brewster is the oldest of four children born to the Rev. Dr. Mayfield Brewster and the late Lillian Faye (Criner) Brewster of Texarkana, Arkansas. She is the mother of two daughters: Nikki (Rev. Reco) Boyd and Shayla (Rev. Cedell) White; and three grandchildren: Adrianna, Mollie and Braxton.
Rev. Brewster is a graduate of Arkansas High School in Texarkana, AR. Upon completing her high school education she continued to pursue graduate studies at William Buchanan School of Nursing at Texarkana Community College and received her degree as s Licensed Vocational Nurse. She is also a graduate of the Barbizon Modeling School and Leadership Texarkana sponsored by the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce; basic training in the United Stated Army at Fort Jackson, South Carolina (Delta Company, First Battalion, 43rd Infantry Regiment Brigade, (Fourth Platoon) in July of 1987; served in the reserves in the 145th MEDSOM located in Texarkana, TX, and the Hope Police Auxiliary Police Academy, spring of 1999.
She has served in nursing as an LPN/LVN for 37 years; and 36 years in education of which 27 of those years have been in administration. She is presently serving as the Director / Principal of Garland Alternative School as well as the District’s Parental Involvement Coordinator for Hope, Arkansas Public School District.
There has been numerous has ‘firsts’ accomplishments throughout her ministry as well as her profession. Among her accomplishments are:
First female to pastor El Dorado Circuit
First female to pastor St. James A.M.E Church, Texarkana, Arkansas
First female to pastor Visitors Chapel A.M.E. Church, Hot Springs, Arkansas
First Black female principal of the Saratoga School District, Saratoga, Arkansas
First and only Black principal of Foreman School District, as well First Female principal.
First Black female graduate from the Hope, AR Auxiliary Police Academy
In December, 2007 at the 124th Session of the West Arkansas Annual Conference, Rev. Brewster was appointed to the Historic Visitors Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas giving her the honor of being the first female appointed to that church in over 130 + year.
And now to add to the list among her first accomplishments: On October 5, 2013 at the 12th Episcopal District (Arkansas and Oklahoma) Planning Counsel in Fort Smith, Arkansas; Rev. Angela Brewster was assigned to Pilgrim Rest African Methodist Church in Monticello, Arkansas, making history again as the first female to lead the flock in the 130 + year history of this church.
Yet her accomplishments are not what she treasures the most. For her, the most important thing in her life is the fact that she is a born again Christian who loves the Lord. Her love for God and love for others is evident in her brilliant smile!
