ASSISTANT
ART DIRECTOR
(2.15-PRESENT)
SALT LAKE CITY WEEKLY, SLC
As the assistant, I worked with the Art Director and the editorial and sales departments to make the
paper each week. From concept to press, I created original, unique and apt cover and cover story treat-
ments using the Adobe Creative Cloud based on the needs of the paper. I also laid out the paper weekly,
maintaining the brand styles and customizing where necessary. I drove to Ogden weekly for press check
to ensure an accurate run of 50,000 copies, confirming dates and folios. I worked with the press operators
to check registration, color and quality. I managed a team of designers in the production department
that created ads and marketing material for the paper, events and promotions. I was responsible for
placing all of the week’s content online. For special issues, I created landing pages and web elements for
all social media needs. Events were a very large responsibility, I helped with logo/theme design, promo-
tional materials, technical and public maps for several events through the year (Beerfest, Best of Utah,
Best of Utah Music, Best of Utah Arts, Utah Pizza Party, SLC Burger week, Miss City Weekly).
FREELANCE
JOURNALIST
(10.15-PRESENT)
SALT LAKE CITY WEEKLY, SLC
The Nueve was a weekly column of absurd lists that ran in the paper that had mostly to do with nothing.
They were satirical and based on local and/or current events. Each list was accompanied by an image
that was an intentionally over-the-top Photoshop representation of one of the bizarre concepts offered
in the list itself. I designed the images and turned in the copy that my co-author and myself had written
to the editor in timely manner every week for 42 weeks.
FREELANCE
DESIGNER &
JR. CONSULTANT
(11.14-PRESENT)
SAWAYA CONSULTING, SLC
As a contracted freelance designer, I am responsible for the completion of a variety of projects for the
firm. Using the Adobe Creative Suite, I design email marketing templates, holiday cards, client promo-
tional material and various intermediate projects. I have maintained a relationship with the firm that
allows me to take on a variety of projects that help expand my skill set. Amber Sawaya, the creative
director, has been instrumental in my professional progress.
LAYOUT DESIGNER
& ILLUSTRATOR
(5.12-3.15)
SLUG MAGAZINE, SLC
I was a part of the design team for the nations 3rd longest running independent publication. I was in
charge of my own time to meet weekly deadlines for articles, posters, advertisements and illustrations,
a total of 3-6 projects per month. Brand identity maintenance was a key responsibility of this position, it
was very important to stay as punk as possible.
DESIGNER &
ENGRAVER
(6.13-11.14)
TAYLOR CRAFTS, SLC
I was in charge of designing and maintaining daily order production using laser engravers to engrave
cutting boards and humidors with custom designs. I created the images in InDesign following closely to
the instructions given by the customers, provided proofs when needed for our standard boards and hu-
midors. I shipped and tracked all orders while on shift as well as designed templates to add to the menu
of items for sale on their Etsy store.
WORK EXPERIENCE
ASSOCIATES IN
VISUAL ART &
DESIGN
(8.11-5.14)
SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE, SLC
I pursued an associates degree with an illustration focus, I was also able to take many graphic design
courses. Typography became an obsession and was ultimately used in my illustrations as well. The
instructors and courses I took have remained valuable in my professional career. The strongest skill I
gained was an appreciation for critique and it’s importance to being an effective designer and illustrator.
