Marit was born in Norway and raised in Brazil before moving to London to studied at
Chelsea College of Art and Design.

Marit crosses the boundaries of Art, Craft and Design her works are hung in the white
gallery space like dress shaped canvass the folds of the fabrics mistaken for layers of
paint spilling off the canvas, the craft of the fabric manipulation, dying and embroidery
and the Design wether it be Fashion or Textiles.

When she is not layering and folding fabric Marit manipulates the materials to appear like
cross sections of the human form, not too dissimilar to the slices of human tissue
exhibited in body worlds exhibitions, I imagine that she has made a whole torso and
delicately dissected it to create this beautiful cross section.

Marit Fujiwara – Sculptured Contours
Marit Fujiwara graduated from Chelsea College of Art and Design in 2009 and then set
up her company Tanana Takite. Specialising in mixed media and constructive textiles,
she creates some really unique pieces that push the boundaries between Art, Craft and
Design. She adopts an experimental attitude towards materials, combining traditional
printing techniques with embroidery and fabric manipulation. As a keen illustrator, she
bases her work on drawing allowing fluidity to her garments projecting the idea of
movement and time. You can see some really beautiful pieces on her Flickr page
including some amazing one off wedding dresses. We’d love to know what she is
creating now.
