Colombia is located in northwestern South America. Spanish is the dominant language spoken in Colombia, though some indigenous languages like Chibcha and Araucano are still spoken. The capital and largest city of Colombia is Bogotá, with a population of over 6.5 million people. Famous Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982 for works such as One Hundred Years of Solitude and Chronicle of a Death Foretold. Popular Colombian performer Shakira was born in Barranquilla and began her music career after moving to Bogotá at age 13. While most Colombians are Catholic, Protestant faiths make up around 13.5% of the population.
