The Ten Facts About People With Autism Presentation
Manchester City
1. Manchester City Football Club is an English football club based
in Manchester that competes in the Premier League, the top
flight of English football. Founded in 1880 as St. Mark's (West
Gorton), it became Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887
and Manchester City in 1894. The club's home ground is
the City of Manchester Stadium in east Manchester, to which it
moved in 2003, having played at Maine Road since 1923. The
club adopted their sky blue home shirts in 1894 in the first
season of the club's current iteration, that have been used ever
since.
2. In 2008, Manchester City was purchased by Abu Dhabi United Group for
£210 million and received considerable financial investment in both playing staff
and club facilities, including the £150 million Etihad Campus in east Manchester.
Under the management of Pep Guardiola they won the Premier League
in 2018 becoming the only Premier League team to attain 100 points in a single
season. In 2019, they won four trophies, completing an unprecedented sweep of
all domestic trophies in England and becoming the first English men's team to win
the domestic treble.
3. The Manchester derby refers to football matches
between Manchester City and Manchester United, first contested
in 1881. United play at Old Trafford while City play at the City of
Manchester Stadium, the two grounds separated by approximately
4 miles (6.4 km). The teams have played 182 matches in all
competitions, United winning 76, City 54, and the remaining 52
having been drawn. Amongst the most successful clubs in England,
between them they have won 92 honours: a record 66 for
Manchester United and 26 for Manchester City.
4. Players who have played for both clubs
Peter Schmeichel
He is best remembered for his most successful years at English
club Manchester United, whom he captained to victory in
the 1999 UEFA Champions League Final to complete
the Treble, and for winning UEFA Euro 1992 with Denmark.
5. In 2002, Schmeichel completed a move to Manchester
City on a free transfer. He played only one season, in
2002–03. Schmeichel's record in the Manchester derby is
exceptional, in that he was never on the losing side.
During his nine years with Manchester United, they were
unbeaten against Manchester City, while in his single
season with City, they won at Maine Road and drew
at Old Trafford.
6. Manchester City won the Premier League last season for the second time
in a row and have broken many Premier League records along the way.
Some of the records they have broken include: most points, most goals,
most wins, most consecutive wins, most points ahead of second place and
best goal difference. Manchester City’s top scorer was Sergio Aguero with
21 Premier League goals, who has now won the Premier League four times
with City.
