3. Spring Flower Garden Planning
Today, I started to plan my garden. The length of the rectangular area
that I am going to plant is three feet longer than it is wide. I decided
to plant one-third of the garden area with Sunflowers. Another
fourth of my garden will be planted with Brown-eyed Susans. Only
one-fifth of my garden will contain Columbine. Exactly one square
yard in the garden will be devoted to Foxglove. The last one-sixth of
my garden will be filled with Trillium. I would like you to find the area
and the percent of the whole flower garden each flower type takes
up. Be organized and include labels and units In your work and
answers.

fourth of the ground that is left after the tomatoes are planted, After
that, you plan lettuce in half of what is left.
Te remainder of the garden is planted in cauliflower. What percent of
your garden is planted in cauliflower?
Extra Challenge: If the length and width of the entire garden is 12
feet by 24 feet, what is the area for each type of vegetable?
12. Abraham Wald's Memo
Abraham is tasked with reviewing damaged planes coming back from
sorties over Germany in the Second World War. He has to review the
damage of the planes to see which areas must be protected even
more.
Abraham finds that the fuselage and fuel system of returned planes
are much more likely to be damaged by bullets or flak than the
engines. What should he recommend to his superiors?
