The Israelites celebrated when bringing the ark of God to battle, assuming it guaranteed victory like in the past. However, God was no longer with them and they suffered a devastating defeat. Clinging to past experiences with God is dangerous, as His presence must be maintained daily through intimacy. Over time, even those who witnessed miracles lost God's glory due to self-centeredness. To avoid this, we must humble ourselves daily before God and continually seek intimacy with Him above all else.

The document provides examples of how people can respond to temptation in everyday situations by employing "Temptation Response Actions".
In one example, a married man resists looking at an attractive coworker inappropriately and leaves his office door open when working with her.
Another example involves a single mother declining a chatroom friend's request to meet after their online conversation lasted over an hour, recognizing this could lead to an affair.
A third example illustrates a married man declining his attractive neighbor's request to help with a repair when his wife is absent, instead waiting for his family to return with him.
Boaz agrees to marry Ruth after she asks for his protection according to Naomi's plan. He praises Ruth for choosing to commit to Naomi and their God, rather than pursuing younger wealthy men. Boaz acknowledges Ruth is worthy of respect from the community for her character as she has transformed from an unbelieving Moabite to a God-fearing woman. He promises to take care of finalizing their marriage arrangement after confirming with a closer relative who has the right to marry Ruth first.
Jesus is the greatest friend who loves believers at all times. His love for believers preceded time itself and was shown through his life, death, and resurrection to save sinners. Despite sins and failures, Jesus' love remains constant and he is present through all of life's difficulties, strengthening and comforting believers. He proves himself to be a true, loyal friend who is devoted in both good and bad times, demonstrating his real and enduring love.

This document discusses biblical principles for distinguishing appropriate gender distinctions in clothing. It examines how God designed differences in how men and women respond sexually and physically. Modest clothing for women should adequately cover areas that attract mens' gazes and conceal curves, while allowing freedom of movement. Principles from the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy indicate women's outer garments should be long, flowing dresses no shorter than 8-10 inches from the floor. Distinctions should not depend on cultural trends but on following God's design.
1. The document is a summary of 1 Corinthians 13, which discusses the importance and qualities of love. It describes how without love, speaking multiple languages, spiritual gifts, hard work, and self-sacrifice are worthless.
2. Love is described as patient, kind, not rude or selfish, slow to anger, and believing the best in others. It does not gossip or keep track of wrongs done.
3. The passage emphasizes that while people are imperfect and understanding is partial, living with God's spirit of love changes everything by helping people outgrow childish ways and see as God does in order to fully live and love.
A verse by verse commentary on the Gospel of Mark chapter 6 dealing with Jesus complaining of being a prophet without honor, and then he sends out the Twelve to preach repentance and to heal. John the Baptist is beheaded, and Jesus feeds the five thousand after which He walks on water to rescue His Apostles.
The document discusses Abraham and the story of Noah's flood from the Old Testament. It examines whether the flood should be viewed as historical or allegorical, noting that Jesus and other New Testament authors seemed to present it as a historical event. It also summarizes the key lessons that can be learned from the flood story. The document then analyzes the story of the Tower of Babel, including possible meanings behind constructing the tower and the sins of hubris and trying to contain God. Finally, it discusses different perspectives on the sin of Sodom from the story of Abraham interceding with God regarding the city.
This document summarizes a talk about lies women believe and their true desires and design according to God. It discusses three core desires of women: to be romanced, play an irreplaceable role, and unveil beauty. It then examines three Bible stories where Jesus interacts with women (the adulterous woman, the woman at the well, and the crippled woman) and shows how He forgives, fulfills their desires, and reveals their dignity. The talk encourages women to bring their pierced hearts to God and choose to have a new heartbeat through inviting Jesus in, renouncing lies, forgiving, and asking Him to heal and answer their deepest questions. It promises a place in God's heart and security through allowing Him
This document discusses the history of swimwear fashion from the 1850s to present day and how styles have become increasingly revealing and immodest over time. It notes that early Adventists maintained high standards of modesty and did not engage in mixed swimming even when swimwear was more fully covering than modern styles. The document encourages Adventists to look back to the pioneers' example and uphold modest dress by avoiding revealing swimwear and mixed swimming. It suggests some more modest swimwear options as an improvement over typical styles but notes they still do not meet the high standards of the past.
Deborah, a prophetess, summoned Barak and told him God had commanded him to gather an army and fight against Sisera and the Canaanites. Barak agreed to go only if Deborah went with him. Deborah and Barak gathered an army of 10,000 men at Mount Tabor. When Sisera heard of this, he gathered his 900 chariots of iron. Deborah told Barak God had given Sisera into their hands, and they went down from Mount Tabor and engaged Sisera in battle.

This document discusses modest and healthful dress according to Christian principles. It provides biblical passages and counsel from Ellen White on dress reform. Some key points covered include:
- Wearing clothing that brings glory to God and avoids pride, vanity and extravagance
- Ensuring dress length is modest when sitting, bending or reaching
- Protecting extremities from exposure to maintain circulation and avoid disease
- Avoiding fashions that promote lust or are linked to immorality
The overall message is that Christians should dress in a way that reflects humility, sobriety and avoids compromising health or morals.
The Pilgrim's Progress tells the story of Christian's journey from his home to the Celestial City as an allegory. In the story, Christian and his companion Faithful encounter Vanity Fair, a town representing the sinful world. Vanity Fair is depicted as a bustling marketplace selling all manner of worldly goods and vices. Christian and Faithful stand out from the crowd due to their plain clothing and disinterest in the wares for sale. Their behavior arouses hostility from residents of Vanity Fair, leading to Faithful being put on trial and condemned as a heretic. The allegory uses Vanity Fair to represent the difficulty pilgrims face distinguishing themselves from worldly attractions on their journey to salvation.
This document summarizes events and themes for the summer of 2012 at Holden Village, a Lutheran retreat center. It will celebrate its 50th anniversary with various activities throughout the summer, including parades each week featuring puppets and a marching band. Historical displays will showcase theme t-shirts from past years. The summer program will begin with a workshop on liturgy and feature many teaching staff on topics through September. Preparatory work will also continue on the mine remediation project occurring in the area.
In Christ’s life, we see His total victory over death. In His death on the cross, we see the price His suffering paid for our sin and sickness. He did not suffer for Himself. He suffered for us. His body was not beaten for Himself. He did it for us. We do Him honor expecting that His sacrifice was enough and by resisting the symptoms that He paid a price for.
Silvia, a pastor, said, “I fell down the stairs and my foot was put in a cast for 10 days. When removed it looked like Big Foot, hurting and swollen. This document discusses Ellen White's counsel on dress and appearance. It provides biblical principles and counsel from both the Old and New Testaments regarding modesty in dress. White encouraged the adoption of the "reform dress" which removed unnecessary adornments but was rejected by some. For health, character development and to distinguish God's people, simplicity in dress without pride or fashion was emphasized. Obedience to God's instructions on dress was presented as important for experiencing His presence and shedding a holy influence.

Chapter 9
Reaching Out to Others:
Especially Those Who Are Different
“MY HUSBAND just won’t talk to me!” Kelly said. “I know he cares about me, but he just can’t seem to express it very well. We’re so different!”
Communication is the key to an effective marriage, yet some couples find it extremely difficult to express their true feelings to one another. The feelings are inside them, but they remain bottled up. Unexpressed love is often interpreted as no love at all. In some cases, it may even be perceived as resentment or rejection.
Brian and Kelly had been married for three years. There were no major problems on the surface of their marriage. However, there was plenty of frustration underneath. They tried to talk about it, but they inevitably ended up in confused silence.
“One of you has to be willing to reach out to the other one,” I suggested. “It will take courage and commitment to try, but you can’t go on in silence.”
“I’m willing,” Kelly said. “But what if he doesn’t respond?”
“You’re not the first woman to face that concern,” I said. “Ruth did it, and it worked for her!”
The little book of Ruth is like a ray of sunshine at the end of a long, dark tunnel. It was originally part of the book of Judges. It was the only ray of hope after three hundred years of failure and heartache. Just when it seemed everything was going wrong, God reminded His people that He was still protecting the promise.
On the surface, the promise seemed more obscure than ever. God was not worshiped, His law was not obeyed, and His Messiah had not come forth. It appeared to many that there was little hope for the future.
Life was dim when Elimelech (“God is my King”) and Naomi (“pleasant one”) left Bethlehem because of a famine. Surely things will be better in Moab, they thought. So off they went with their two sons, Mahlon (“sickly”) and Kilion (“pining”), to live among Israel’s enemies, the Moabites.
Moab was a strange place to find a better life. People who had long opposed Jehovah in favor of other gods populated the land. Moabites were notorious for their pagan rituals, including child sacrifice. It was hardly the place to start over.
When Everything Goes Wrong
While they were in Moab, Elimelech died. Eventually Mahlon and Kilion married Moabite girls named Ruth and Orpah. They seemed happy at first, but both of the boys soon died as well. In just ten short years, Naomi lost her husband and both of her sons.
The book of Ruth is written like a four-act play. As the curtain goes up on scene one, we see three widows crying together in the fields of Moab. Broken and destitute, Naomi announced to them that she was returning home to Bethlehem.
“Go back, each of you, to your mother’s home,” she suggested to her daughters-in-law. “May the Lord show kindness to you. … May the Lord grant that each of you will find rest in the home of another husband” (Ruth 1:8, 9).
Life was hard for widows in those days. They had no security, no income, and no means of working. Survival ...
In the days when Judges ruled Israel, a famine forced a man named Elimelech from Bethlehem to relocate his family to Moab. There, Elimelech and his two sons died, leaving Naomi widowed. Naomi decided to return to Bethlehem with her two Moabite daughters-in-law, Orpah and Ruth. Orpah returned home, while Ruth clung to Naomi, declaring her loyalty and faith in Naomi's God. The two women arrived in Bethlehem at barley harvest, with Ruth determined to care for her grieving mother-in-law.
1) Ruth tells the story of Naomi, a widow who loses her husband and two sons and decides to return to her homeland of Bethlehem with her daughter-in-law Ruth.
2) Ruth faces many obstacles including famine, poverty, and shattered dreams of having a family, but demonstrates faith and loyalty to Naomi.
3) Ruth finds favor with Boaz, a wealthy landowner, who acts to redeem and care for her according to Israelite law.
4) They marry and have a son, Obed, who becomes the grandfather of King David, demonstrating that God's plan can overcome any obstacles to holiness.

The document discusses the importance of good leadership in families, nations, and churches based on events in the Book of Judges. It describes how without Joshua's leadership after his death, every person did what was right in their own eyes, leading Israel into idolatry and chaos. It emphasizes that families, nations, and churches all require godly leadership and submission to authority to function properly and avoid sin and confusion.

The document discusses themes from Noah's Ark and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. It emphasizes the importance of family and bringing all family members to salvation before the second coming of Jesus. It warns that the world today is facing imminent destruction as in the days of Noah and Lot, and encourages readers to save their families by bringing them to God.
The document discusses the biblical story of Leah, who was the older, less attractive daughter of Laban. Jacob fell in love with Leah's younger sister Rachel and worked 7 years to marry her. However, on the wedding night, Laban deceived Jacob into marrying Leah instead in the dark. Leah spent her life facing rejection from her husband Jacob, who loved Rachel more, and trying unsuccessfully to gain his love through bearing him sons. The document draws parallels between Leah's rejection and hurt and how people still experience rejection today, emphasizing that only God can truly satisfy and fill the void in one's life.
This document discusses how society has become increasingly confusing and discusses three areas where this confusion is being used to go against God's teachings: violence, sexual immorality, and dishonesty/hypocrisy. It provides biblical perspectives on fathers and mothers raising children, appropriate sexual relationships, and the importance of honesty. The key message is that following God and his commandments provides clarity and peace, while lying, violence and immorality lead to harm.
This document provides a summary of the book of Ruth in 3 acts. In Act 1, Naomi and her family migrate to Moab during a famine but her husband and sons die, leaving her and her daughters-in-law widowed. One daughter-in-law, Orpah, returns to Moab but Ruth insists on staying with Naomi. In Act 2, Ruth gleans grain in the field of a wealthy relative of Naomi named Boaz, who shows her kindness. In Act 3, Naomi devises a plan for Ruth to reveal herself to Boaz, who agrees to redeem Naomi's land and marry Ruth.
This document provides a summary and analysis of Ruth 3:1-18 from the Bible. It discusses three key points:
1) Naomi advises Ruth to go to Boaz at night and uncover his feet, indicating she wants to marry him. Ruth follows her plan.
2) At midnight, Boaz awakens to find Ruth at his feet. He praises her character and promises to help her however he can, though notes another man has a closer redemption claim over her.
3) Boaz tells Ruth to stay the night and he will address the situation in the morning, either redeeming her himself or clearing the way for the other man to do so, as he wants to marry
Ruth chooses to follow Naomi and cling to her, forsaking her own people and God. Through Naomi's influence and guidance, Ruth meets Boaz who agrees to marry her and provide for her. Their union produces a son named Obed who becomes the grandfather of King David. The document encourages the reader to choose who and what influences them wisely, as whatever is influencing you is leading you to your destiny. It suggests surrounding yourself with people and content that lead to positive outcomes and God's will.
The Bible records events in which Jesus discusses His mother. He gave public credit to His followers for being His mothers and His brothers. Spiritual mothers should be honored.
The document provides commentary on the Book of Ruth chapters 1-2. It summarizes the story of Naomi, her husband Elimelech, and her sons who move from Bethlehem to Moab during a famine. Both sons marry Moabite women, Orpah and Ruth, but then Elimelech and the sons die, leaving Naomi widowed. Naomi decides to return to Bethlehem and urges Orpah and Ruth to stay in Moab, but Ruth refuses, proclaiming her loyalty to Naomi. The commentary reflects on themes of God's sovereignty and providence even in times of suffering. It contrasts the faith of Ruth with Orpah, who chooses to leave Naomi and
This document discusses the important role of godly women and mothers. It provides biblical passages that describe how God created Eve to be a companion and helper for Adam. The passages discuss how a man will leave his parents to be united with his wife. The document honors saintly women from the Old Testament like Sarah and Hannah. It also recognizes saintly women from the New Testament like Mary, Lydia, and Eunice. Several responses from people share the nicest things they can say about their own mothers, praising them for their love, kindness, faith, and role modeling godly behavior.
This document provides a summary of Ruth chapters 3 and 4 from a church sermon. It discusses how Ruth followed Naomi's plan to reveal herself to Boaz at the threshing floor in order to prompt him to act as their kinsman redeemer. Boaz agrees to redeem Ruth and Naomi's land. The next day, Boaz calls together the other potential redeemer, who declines, so Boaz marries Ruth. They have a son, Obed, who is the grandfather of King David. The document examines themes of redemption through Christ from the story and lessons that can be learned from Naomi's shattered dreams.
Being a good daddy isn't easy. There examples of good mothers in the Bible, but only a few good examples of good fathers. This presentation presents a few tips that may help. Visit us at Biblestudies-online.com
The document summarizes a sermon about 3 gifts that God wants for Christmas: justice, kindness, and humility. It discusses each gift in turn. For justice, it argues we should promise to act fairly towards others. For kindness, it says we should reflect Christ's kindness by being patient and not unkind. For humility, it says we should reject pride and arrogance, and instead walk humbly with God as Jesus did. The sermon encourages giving these gifts to Jesus for Christmas rather than expensive presents, as they do not require money or talent but just a change of heart.

Lição 12: João 15 a 17 – O Espírito Santo e a Oração Sacerdotal | 2° Trimestr...OmarBarrezueta1

Lucid Dreaming: Understanding the Risks and Benefits
The ability to control one's dreams or for the dreamer to be aware that he or she is dreaming. This process, called lucid dreaming, has some potential risks as well as many fascinating benefits. However, many people are hesitant to try it initially for fear of the potential dangers. This article aims to clarify these concerns by exploring both the risks and benefits of lucid dreaming.
The Benefits of Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming allows a person to take control of their dream world, helping them overcome their fears and eliminate nightmares. This technique is particularly useful for mental health. By taking control of their dreams, individuals can face challenging scenarios in a controlled environment, which can help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence.
Addressing Common Concerns
Physical Harm in Dreams Lucid dreaming is fundamentally safe. In a lucid dream, everything is a creation of your mind. Therefore, nothing in the dream can physically harm you. Despite the vividness and realness of the dream experience, it remains entirely within your mental landscape, posing no physical danger.
Mental Health Risks Concerns about developing PTSD or other mental illnesses from lucid dreaming are unfounded. As soon as you wake up, it's clear that the events experienced in the dream were not real. On the contrary, lucid dreaming is often seen as a therapeutic tool for conditions like PTSD, as it allows individuals to reframe and manage their thoughts.
Potential Risks of Lucid Dreaming
While generally safe, lucid dreaming does come with a few risks as well:
Mixing Dream Memories with Reality Long-term lucid dreamers might occasionally confuse dream memories with real ones, creating false memories. This issue is rare and preventable by maintaining a dream journal and avoiding lucid dreaming about real-life people or places too frequently.
Escapism Using lucid dreaming to escape reality can be problematic if it interferes with your daily life. While it is sometimes beneficial to escape and relieve the stress of reality, relying on lucid dreaming for happiness can hinder personal growth and productivity.
Feeling Tired After Lucid Dreaming Some people report feeling tired after lucid dreaming. This tiredness is not due to the dreams themselves but often results from not getting enough sleep or using techniques that disrupt sleep patterns. Taking breaks and ensuring adequate sleep can prevent this.
Mental Exhaustion Lucid dreaming can be mentally taxing if practiced excessively without breaks. It’s important to balance lucid dreaming with regular sleep to avoid mental fatigue.
Lucid dreaming is safe and beneficial if done with caution. It has many benefits, such as overcoming fear and improving mental health, and minimal risks. There are many resources and tutorials available for those interested in trying it.

Introduction
Mantra Yoga is an exact science. "Mananat trayate iti mantrah- by the Manana (constant thinking or recollection) of which one is protected or is released from the round of births and deaths, is Mantra." That is called Mantra by the meditation (Manana) on which the Jiva or the individual soul attains freedom from sin, enjoyment in heaven and final liberation, and by the aid of which it attains in full the fourfold fruit (Chaturvarga), i.e., Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. A Mantra is so called because it is achieved by the mental process.
The Book of Revelation, filled with symbolic and apocalyptic imagery, presents one of its most striking visions in Revelation 9:3-12—the locust army. Understanding the significance of this locust army provides insight into the broader themes of divine judgment, protection, and the ultimate triumph of God’s will as depicted in Revelation.
Astronism, Cosmism and Cosmodeism: the space religions espousing the doctrine...Cometan
This lecture created by Brandon Taylorian (aka Cometan) specially for the CESNUR Conference held Bordeaux in June 2024 provides a brief introduction to the legacy of religious and philosophical thought that Astronism emerges from, namely the discourse on transcension started assuredly by the Cosmists in Russia in the mid-to-late nineteenth century and then carried on and developed by Mordecai Nessyahu in Cosmodeism in the twentieth century. Cometan also then provides some detail on his story in founding Astronism in the early twenty-first century from 2013 along with details on the central Astronist doctrine of transcension. Finally, the lecture concludes with some contributions made by space religions and space philosophy and their influences on various cultural facets in art, literature and film.

1. Love, Loyalty & Labor
Ruth 3:16
Adapted from a Davon Huss sermon
http://www.sermoncentral.com/print_friendly.asp?Cont
ributorID=&SermonID=46608
2. Ruth 3:16 NIV When Ruth came to her
mother-in-law, Naomi asked, “How did it
go, my daughter?” Then she told her
everything Boaz had done for her 17 and
added, “He gave me these six measures of
barley, saying, „Don‟t go back to your
mother-in-law empty-handed.‟ ” 18 Then
Naomi said, “Wait, my daughter, until you
find out what happens. For the man will not
rest until the matter is settled today.”
3. Attractive:
Pleasing to the eye or mind; charming.
Beauty:
A pleasing quality associated with harmony
of form or color, excellence of
craftsmanship, truthfulness, originality, or
another, often undefined property.
4. To be attractive, pleasing to look at involves
aesthetically pleasing measurements, the
right color, the right texture, and the right
this and that. If we don’t have it we are
sorry, out of luck. This world can be cruel.
There are qualities that transcend the
outward appearance. They can make us
attractive so that people are drawn or they
can make us unattractive so that people are
repelled.
5. How do we become attractive to those
around us? How do we become someone
people want to be around? How do we
become attractive to our co-workers? How
do we become attractive to our family?
Most importantly, how do we become
attractive to the one who matters most, and
that is God?
6. Women put on lots of makeup, get a fancy
haircut, get a tan, get a face lift, get a
tummy tuck, get their nails done, run miles
every day, use Oil of Olay, use the right
perfume, all to be attractive.
7. Men lift weights, make sure their hair is
done in the coolest style, know the correct
etiquette and chivalry, they must be tough
yet sensitive, and they must have the
coolest car in town, all to make themselves
attractive.
Many, if not most, people think they must
look good in a swimming suit!
8. Joe McKeever is quoted saying, As a
cartoonist and sketch artist, I love to draw
people. So I notice people who have that
something extra, that inner glow that makes
the difference between "Nice-looking" and
"wow." It’s like someone has turned on a
light inside them causing a radiance to seep
out the pores of their skin.
9. It surely must be what Peter intended when
he said; Let your beauty not be external —
the braiding of hair and wearing of gold
jewelry or fine clothes —but the inner
person of the heart, the lasting beauty of a
gentle and tranquil spirit, which is precious
in God's sight. 1 Peter 3:4 NET
Inner beauty. Estee Lauder and Mary Kay
will never figure out how to bottle it. It is a
spiritual quality.
10. Have you noticed that when people lose their
inner beauty (due to sin and only due to sin), or
when they’ve never had it, they often fake it
with an over-emphasis on makeup, hair and
nail treatments, clothing, and jewelry. The
effect is like trying to reproduce the Mona Lisa
with crayons. It never works. You take two
young people, one with an ugly attitude but
beautiful outwardly, and the other who has a
lovely spirit but is plain outwardly, and in
time, the situations will reverse.
11. The lovely spirit will transform the person
into a true beauty, and the bad attitude will
rob the other of their youthful beauty. The
inner quality, whatever it is, good or not
good, will eventually come out and will rule.
A beautiful heart more than offsets the
handicap of a homely face!
12. Isaac Asimov is quoted saying, She (Ruth)
has remained ever since, to all men, one of
the most attractive women in the Bible.
Why? Why did this man say that Ruth is
one of the most attractive women in the
Bible?
Esther, Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, Philistine
women, these women are all mentioned as
very attractive. So why is Ruth an attractive
woman?
13. She is never mentioned as being attractive
in the Bible. No mention of physical beauty.
We do not have a picture of Ruth but
assuming the reaction of Boaz, she
probably was very attractive. Maybe
physically but an inner radiance that shone
through. Boaz noticed it and was attracted
to it.
14. Attraction does not always depend on
looks. We all have known beautiful people
who have terrible attitudes. Not so attractive
even though they may be physically
beautiful. An average person of modest
physical beauty who has a great outlook
and attitude is attractive.
Let’s look at some of the attributes and
characteristics of Ruth that made her so
attractive.
15. Not talking about a Don Won or a Cleopatra or
some kind of seductress, but a great lover of
people and a great lover of God.
The story of Naomi.
Her son Mahlon married Ruth. Mahlon and his
brother Chilion died. The famine is over. Naomi
released Orpha & Ruth from any responsibility
to her saying, “Each of you go back to your
Mother’s home and find new husbands.”
16. Naomi pleaded with them to return. It would
be hard for them. Widows could not get
steady jobs. Naomi could not provide them
with husbands. It was customary when a
son died, that another son would marry the
widow and provide children for his brother.
Naomi could not provide this.
17. Ruth 1:14 NIV At this they wept again. Then
Orpah kissed her mother-in-law good-
by, but Ruth clung to her. 15 “Look,” said
Naomi, “your sister-in-law is going back to
her people and her gods. Go back with her.”
16 But Ruth replied, “Don‟t urge me to leave
you or to turn back from you. Where you go
I will go, and where you stay I will stay.
18. Your people will be my people and your
God my God. 17 Where you die I will
die, and there I will be buried. May the
LORD deal with me, be it ever so
severely, if anything but death separates
you and me.” 18 When Naomi realized that
Ruth was determined to go with her, she
stopped urging her.
19. Ruth had a great love for her mother-in-law
Naomi. She saw Naomi needed her even
though Naomi did not think so. It is a shame
that so many mother in-laws and daughter in-
laws do not have that kind of love between
them today. Ruth understood true love. Love is
not self-seeking. Many people once love; the
relationship becomes inconvenient or
restricting, many people end that love, that
relationship. Throw off marriages, throw off
friends, and throw off children.
20. Immature love follows the principle: "I love
because I am loved" Mature love says: "I
am loved because I love." There has to be a
give and take and when it all becomes
giving and no taking, many people grow
weary and abandon ship.
Mother’s are to love their husbands and
children.
Titus 2:4 NET In this way they will train the
younger women to love their husbands, to
love their children,
21. There was another reason that Ruth stuck
with Naomi. Ruth did not want to go back to
her family or to the old gods. The god of
Moab was Chemosh.
Chemosh apparently wanted the people to
sacrifice their firstborn sons in the fire to
him.
22. 2 Kings 3:26 NIV When the king of Moab
saw that the battle had gone against
him, he took with him seven hundred
swordsmen to break through to the king of
Edom, but they failed. 27 Then he took his
firstborn son, who was to succeed him as
king, and offered him as a sacrifice on the
city wall. The fury against Israel was great;
they withdrew and returned to their own
land.
23. Ruth saw something vastly different in the
Israelites God. She saw worship that built
up the family. She saw worship that was not
provocative to the flesh but convicting to the
soul. She saw the laws, rules and
regulations of the Israelite God and she
realized these things are good.
24. Not that she understood everything but she
saw that they were different and good. She
saw a God who showed loving-kindness
and compassion to people. Not like
Chemosh who had to be appeased with
sacrifices and even then he might not show
favor.
25. When she married Mahlon, God gained a
convert. It was not right for Elimelech and
his sons to go to Moab; it was not right for
Mahlon and Chilion to marry foreign
women, but in the end it turned out good for
Ruth. She loved the God of Abraham, Isaac
and Jacob. She heard the stories of Moses
and the miracles and she was hooked. Not
that the Israelites were perfect, but she saw
God and she loved him.
26. 15 “Look,” said Naomi, “your sister-in-law is
going back to her people and her gods. Go
back with her.” Ruth did not want to go back
to that. Ruth was a true worshipper of God
and went with Naomi to Judah because of
that love. Boaz says, May the LORD repay
you for what you have done. May you be
richly rewarded by the LORD, the God of
Israel, under whose wings you have come
to take refuge.” Ruth 2:12 NIV
27. Many people accept Christ through
superficial motives. They never surrender
all. They do it to please family, friends, and
romantic interests. They love God to a point
and leave him when it becomes
inconvenient. They do not love God
enough.
They love other things better.
Do not love the world…
28. She showed loyalty to Naomi and her
covenant with Elimelech’s family. Ruth went
the extra mile, even though Naomi loosed
her from this responsibility; still she
remained loyal to Naomi and to God. She
took her words, promises and commitments
seriously.
29. These verses (16-17) are used in many
wedding ceremonies because it depicts
love and loyalty to the wedding vows.
However, it can apply to many other areas.
It seems many today have no idea of what
loyalty is. Synonyms of loyal: Faithful,
trustworthy, devoted, reliable, dependable,
steadfast, dedicated, trusty, constant
Does our society value loyalty?
30. Horton hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss- Lazy
Mayzie the bird was sitting on an egg.
Horton the elephant passes by and Mayzie
gets him to sit on the egg. Mayzie leaves
and doesn’t come back. Horton continues to
sit on the egg through all kinds of weather.
Then some men find Horton sitting on the
egg and they are so fascinated with an
elephant sitting on an egg that they take
Horton and the egg and sell him to a circus.
31. Throughout all of these episodes, Horton
says, "I meant what I said, and I said what I
meant… An elephant’s faithful- one hundred
percent." Finally, the egg hatches and out
pops an elephant-bird. And it should be, it
should be, it should be like that! Because
Horton was faithful! He sat and he sat! He
meant what he said And he said what he
meant…And they sent him home
Happy, One hundred per cent!
32. How many people would fulfill such a
promise! We see here a woman of great
character. It is comforting to know some
people who mean what they say and follow
through on their promises. It is refreshing to
have friends who say they will help you and
support you and they actually do it.
33. We need more Ruth’s in our society. We
need more people who will not stab us in
the back. We need more people who will
lead us down the right path. We need more
people who will stick with us when we are
right and when we are wrong. These people
are few and far between. That is why they
are so attractive.
34. Hold To Christ, cling to Him. We will stick
with Christ; we will stick with our families
even though better offers come. We need to
be loyal to our mothers and mothers need
to be loyal to their children. Ruth remained
loyal even in the midst of adversity. Naomi
was old and was unable to provide for
herself. God’s law in Israel is that the
corners of the fields were reserved for the
poor.
35. Leviticus 19:9 NIV “ „When you reap the
harvest of your land, do not reap to the very
edges of your field or gather the gleanings
of your harvest. 10 Do not go over your
vineyard a second time or pick up the
grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the
poor and the alien. I am the LORD your
God.
36. Ruth and Naomi came back to Bethlehem
during the barley harvest. Ruth went to a
field and started to glean what was there.
She went to the field of Boaz.
Chapter
Boaz helped her to gather a lot because he
knew who she was and he respected her
and her character. It was hard work but
Ruth was loyal.
37. Ruth knew that going with Naomi put her in
a very low position. Not just one widow but
two. No income. No steady work. Had to
work as a poor woman gleaning in the
fields, not an easy job and maybe even a
dangerous one. Usually gleaners did not
get much from a day’s work.
Besides, she was a foreigner.
38. Ruth must have had culture shock in
moving to a different country. There were
many unfamiliar ways of doing things, many
unfamiliar customs and sayings, not to
mention language differences. She left her
father and mother and homeland, never to
return. Ruth had to sacrifice much.
39. A lot of times there is a sacrifice, a giving up
of something (carrying a cross) to be a
Christian. Our parent’s had to sacrifice a lot
for us.
To sacrifice is to love.
1 John 4:10 NET In this is love: not that we
have loved God, but that he loved us and
sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for
our sins.
40. Ruth even sacrificed a lot of her dignity.
Chapter 3;
Naomi comes up with a plan. Boaz is one of
their kinsman-redeemers. "A brother in law
or a close relative who bought back the land
of an impoverished or deceased relative to
carry on his name in Israel.
41. If there was a widow from a deceased
relative, the kinsman-redeemer would have
to marry that widow and provide children for
his brother in-law or close relative so that
his name would be carried on in Israel. For
a woman to make a marriage proposal or
ask permission of a kinsman-redeemer to
come and redeem, she had to uncover his
legs and lie down by his feet as in
submission, then the man would make that
decision.
42. Boaz was older than Ruth. This could be
embarrassing for Ruth. During the night
Boaz was sleeping at the threshing
floor, Ruth comes, uncovers his legs & lay
at his feet. Ruth 3:11 NIV And now, my
daughter, don‟t be afraid. I will do for you all
you ask. All my fellow townsmen know that
you are a woman of noble character.
Boaz needs to approach the closest
kinsman-redeemer and have him redeem or
allow Boaz to redeem.
43. Ruth is one of the most attractive women in
the Bible. Boaz says why. “you are a
woman of noble character.”
What made her so attractive? Her love, her
loyalty and her sacrifice.
Matthew 6:33 NET But above all pursue his
kingdom and righteousness, and all these
things will be given to you as well.
The Lord blesses those who please him.
44. Chapter 4
Boaz is allowed to be Ruth’s kinsman-
redeemer. Boaz and Ruth are married and
Ruth gave birth to a son. Naomi was
comforted in her old age with a grandson
named Obed, the grandfather of King
David, in the lineage of Jesus.
45. WE have a kinsman-redeemer and that
redeemer is Jesus Christ. He bought us
back from being poor, wretched, and
miserable. We were like Ruth and Naomi
and even worse. Much like Boaz, who had
nothing really to gain financially. Jesus
gained a bride through his love, loyalty and
sacrifice, the Church. May we be an
attractive bride like Ruth was to Boaz.
46. Are you part of His bride, The Church? Do
you believe as Peter did? Matthew 16:15
NET He said to them, "But who do you say
that I am?" 16 Simon Peter answered, "You
are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
47. Have you repented of your sins & turned to
God? Acts 26:20 NET but I declared to
those in Damascus first, and then to those
in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and to the
Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to
God, performing deeds consistent with
repentance.
48. Have you been added to the number? Acts
2:41 NET So those who accepted his
message were baptized, and that day about
three thousand people were added.
Are you living faithfully, staying true to the
Lord? Acts 11:23 NET When he came and
saw the grace of God, he rejoiced and
encouraged them all to remain true to the
Lord with devoted hearts,
