1. Location
Because the country of Australia is so
large, there isn't one exact point on the
map that it is located. On the east side of
Australia, the city of Sydney is located at
roughly 34 degrees south and 151 degrees
east. Whereas on the west coast, the city
of Perth is marked at 32 degrees south and
116 degrees east. By looking at a map, it is found that Australia is northwest of
New Zealand, south of Papua New Guinea and Indonesia and to the very far east
of Madagascar.
Australia is in the southern hemisphere and has the lowest
average elevation for any continent.
With the highest altitude being
7,310 feet above sea level at Mount
Kosciuszko, and the lowest altitude
being 49 feet below sea level at Lake Eyre, the average
comes out to a mere 1083 feet above sea level.
