LIFE FULLY PLEASING
TO GOD
Colossians 1:9-12
Paul had never been to
Colossae, but had received
encouraging reports from
Epaphras. He had heard of
their genuine faith in the Lord,
their deep love for one
another, and their joyful hope
in that which was laid-up for
them in heaven.
He prayed
fervently for
them in a very
special way.
The Goal of the
Prayer:
Lives Fully
Pleasing to God
(Col. 1:10a)
Paul's prayer was a prayer of
thanks and rejoicing for their
faith, hope, and love, and it
was a request to Heavenly
Father that they might be filled
with the knowledge of God's
will in all wisdom, grace and
spiritual understanding.
Ways to a Life Fully
Pleasing to God
(Col. 1:10b-12a)
ATTAINMENT OF
THE GOAL:
I.
Bearing Fruit in
Every Good Work
(Col. 1:10b)
It is clear that, while we are not
saved by our good works, we are
saved for good works (Eph. 2:8-9)
Titus 3:5- “
he saved us, not because of
works done by us in righteousness,
but according to his own mercy,
by the washing of regeneration
and renewal of the Holy Spirit”
Our salvation must result
into good works-
Eph.2:10- For we are his
workmanship, created in Christ
Jesus for good works, which
God prepared beforehand, that
we should walk in them.
Our salvation must result
into good works-
Titus 3:1- Remind them to
be submissive to rulers and
authorities, to be obedient,
to be ready for every good
work
Our salvation must result
into good works-
2 Tim.2:21- Therefore, if anyone
cleanses himself from what is
dishonorable, he will be a vessel
for honorable use, set apart as
holy, useful to the master of the
house, ready for every good work.
Parable of the sower;
PARABLE
Some seed fell on
rocky ground
where there was
little soil. The
seed soon
sprouted, but
when the sun
came up it burnt
the young plants
MEANING
The seed on the rocky
ground represents
people who respond
with initial eagerness,
but the word of God
does not sink in deep.
When persecution or
hard times
(represented by the
sun) come along they
give up at once.
APPLICATION
People cannot
commit to the
Christian
lifestyle. They
are initially
attracted but
give up when
the going gets
hard.
Parable of the sower;
PARABLE
Some seed
fell among
thorn bushes
which grew
up and
choked the
plants.
MEANING
The thorn bushes
choke the
message of God.
It is heard, but
people’s concern
for riches and
their worries
about life cause
the plants to die.
APPLICATION
Some people
are too concerned
with what others
think and they
worry too much.
They may be
jealous, angry
or concerned
with materialism.
Parable of the sower;
PARABLE
Some seed
fell on good
soil and
the plants
produced
corn.
MEANING
Good soil
represents
people who
hear the
message
and live it in
their lives.
APPLICATION
Some people
have strong
faith and remain
dedicated to a
Christian
lifestyle, even
when things are
difficult
Heb.10:36-39- Patient endurance is what
you need now, so that you will continue to
do God’s will. Then you will receive all that
he has promised. For in just a little while,
the Coming One will come and not delay.
And my righteous ones will live by faith.
But I will take no pleasure in anyone who
turns away.” But we are not like those who
turn away from God to their own
destruction. We are the faithful ones,
whose souls will be saved.
Col.3:17- And whatever you do or say, do it
as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks through him to God the Father.
II.
Increasing
in the
knowledge
of God-
(Col. 1:10c)
“knowledge of God” derives
from the Old Testament Hosea
6:6- For I desire steadfast love
and not sacrifice, the
knowledge of God rather than
burnt offerings.
Why we need to increase in our
knowledge of God?

You will live carefully
- Eph.5:15a
You will know how to
live wisely- Eph.5:15b
You will be protected by
the false teachings
- Eph.4:14-15
You will not be
shaken/backslide in
what happening in
the world- Matt.24
III- Strengthened
with all power,
according to his
glorious might-
Colossians 1:11
Why HE wants to give
that power?
Endurance about difficult situation;
pertains to the ability to remain faithful
to God even amid difficult
circumstances. Patience is about dealing
difficult people; the capacity to tolerate
delays or problems, including dealings
with people who may be irritating or
difficult. We can have endurance and
have patience joyfully.
Joy is possible even though you
are facing difficulty in life.
“Blessed are you when others
revile you and persecute you
and utter all kinds of evil
against you falsely on my
account. Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward is great in
heaven, for so they
persecuted the prophets who
were before you.

Acts 5:40-41- and when they
had called in the
apostles, they beat them and
charged them not to speak in
the name of Jesus, and let
them go. Then they left the
presence of the
council, rejoicing that they
were counted worthy to
suffer dishonor for the name.
Rom.5:3-4- Not only that, but we
rejoice in our sufferings,
knowing that suffering produces
endurance, and endurance
produces character, and
character produces hope.
IV.
Thankfulness
Colossians 1:12a (see also Col. 1:3; 2:7; 3:15, 17; 4:2)
Gratitude before God is
forever fitting because
of all that God has
done for his people in
Christ (Col. 1:12b–14).
Gratitude protects a heart
from complaining and
grumbling, which are
symptoms of
dissatisfaction with God.
Phil. 2:14- Do all
things without
grumbling or
disputing,
Conclusion
Three Spiritual Rs:
Revival of the Heart,
Restoration of the
Church, and
Reformation of Society
The Revival of the heart means the
people's hearts should be with God
instead of the world.
"With the revival of our hearts, we
will learn to seek first Your kingdom
and righteousness, then everything,
yes everything will be added unto
us."
The Restoration of the church means the
church, which is the body of Christ, should
be generous and continue to do good works.
He pointed out that many of the present-day
government's duties used to be the
obligations of the church and these two will
result in a Reformation of society, one that is
not skin-deep but one that transforms
people and the nation.
