Australian Army Dad's Quick Hello from Afghanistan
1. A quick hello from Kyle’s Dad in
Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan
2. • My name is Brenton and I am in the Australian
Army
• I have been in the Army for 18 years and I
have been to help people in East Timor, Iraq
and now I am in Afghanistan.
• I am here because the Australian Government
and Australian people want to help the
Government and people of Afghanistan.
3. I arrived on a Royal Australian Air Force
C-130 Hercules Aeroplane
10. And this is what the local homes
look like
They’re a bit different to our
homes in Australia!
11. This is one home that is just next to
the Army base, and there are about 12
children who live there.
12. We keep fit by running on the tracks –
its not very pretty though…
13. This is an Afghan man who helps to
keep us all safe – I met him while
we were running.
14. So might be curious what Australia
is doing in Afghanistan
• Well, some Afghan people aren’t listening to
their government so we are here trying to
keep everyone safe.
• We are also trying to help the Afghan
Government to take care of their people and
their country.
• There are lots of Australians here, not just the
Army – there is AUSAID (ask your teachers to
explain) and people from the Australian
Government to pay for things being built.
15. Australia is doing lots of important
things like:
– Teaching people to read, (only 15% can read)
– Building schools, (now there are 9 million children
in schools)
– Helping girls go to school and get an education,
– Training people to get jobs like plumbing and
being electricians,
– Helping to train their Police force and Army,
– Helping their government build hospitals and
clinics, and
– Helping people that need food and shelter.
16. Now what about ANZAC DAY….
• I know ANZAC DAY is coming up and some of
you might be going to a Dawn Service or a
parade so I thought I’d share my thoughts with
you…
• I think ANZAC DAY is about having the courage
to stand up for what you believe in and being
proud & grateful of your country.
• We are lucky to live in a safe country and its
important to remember people who sacrificed
their lives so we can live in a free Australia.
17. This is where we will be for the
Dawn Service on ANZAC DAY
18.
19. • So that is what it is like here for us.
• I hope that you learnt something and enjoyed
the pictures, but before I go I just wanted to
say one more thing…..
20. I love you Kyle and I’ll see you
soon! Love Dad!!
