Solomon was the son of King David and Bathsheba who inherited the kingdom after David's death. As king, Solomon practiced polygamy and had 700 wives and 300 concubines. He was renowned for his wisdom but also engaged in foolish behavior. Solomon established Israel as a world power through extensive building projects and wealth, but his many foreign wives led him to idolatry in his later years. In his teachings, he emphasized themes of vanity, seasons and purpose, unity, remembering one's creator, and fearing God.
