Kennewick man runs, but can't hide

Kenyon Devon Brooks tried to hide, tried to run and then tried to hide again, but he couldn't get away from Kennewick
police.
Police got a tip that Brooks, 24, who was wanted for several arrest warrants, was in an apartment
at 623 N. Arthur St. early Thursday morning.
Officers went to the apartment, where they met Brooks' girlfriend, Ashley Roseann Weeks, 22, who
claimed he was not there. She agreed to let police search the apartment. That's when Kennewick
Officer Isaac Merkl saw Brooks jump out a rear window of the apartment.
Brooks slipped past Merkl and two other officers by jumping a fence. The chase was on.
Brooks was next seen just east of Volland Street. Then he was heading north on Tweedt Street.
And then he ran up the stairs of the same apartment complex he ran from. That's about when Sgt. Brian Swartswalter
spotted a door slamming on an upstairs apartment at the complex.
Officers surrounded the apartment. A Benton County Sheriff's police dog was brought to the front door. And a police
officer, armed with a shotgun loaded with bean bags, was waiting out back. Neither was used.
Brooks' girlfriend opened the door for police and they found Brooks on the floor. He was arrested and taken to a police
car, in which he vomited after all the running.
Brooks was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of second-degree criminal trespass, resisting arrest,
obstructing law enforcement, destruction of property and six outstanding warrants.
Weeks also was arrested on investigation of obstructing police.
