Outreach hidden item
• All Public Safety courses require the addition of an “Outreach” item to the gradebook.
• Add the “*Outreach” item as a custom item to all Units (either 1-10 or 1-6) as a hidden item and
titled with an asterisk first (*Outreach) so that it appears first in the gradebook.
• Select “Assign Points/Weights”.
• Then select the “Exclude from Course Grade” option.
• Set the point total at zero.

containing an Assignment.

o Select these items: “Hide item from students” and “Create dropbox basket”
Discussions
• If the course is deployed via CPUT, each Unit containing a Discussion will automatically have
a Discussion left nav item. The item will be type “Threaded Discussion”.
• If the course is deployed via MDP, manually create a Discussion left nav item for each Unit
containing a Discussion.
o Name: “Assignment”
o Item type: “Threaded Discussion”
• Each discussion requires the following introductory text:
“In the interest of conducting a lively, engaging discussion, please keep the following in mind:
Opposing viewpoints are key to any vibrant discussion, but remember to use internet etiquette
and be respectful of your classmates’ views and opinions. Provide constructive feedback or
ask clarifying questions if you do not understand a classmate’s comment. Most importantly,
have fun interacting with the unit content, your classmates, and your instructor!
