Michael McAvoy, Director of the North Bay Campus of New College of California, is about to present Julia "Butterfly" Hill with an honorary Doctorate degree while she sits in a tree behind him. The degree is in recognition of Hill's spirit of resistance, courage, hope, and reverence for the earth shown through her inspiration in the struggle to save old growth forests and trees. It demonstrates the difference one person can make through integrating beliefs, knowledge, and direct action to pursue a more just, sacred, and sustainable world.
