2. Check individual organizations
Larger media organizations like the CBC,
the Globe and Mail and Canadian Press post
jobs on their own web sites
They can be detailed, but are sometimes
staff postings for jobs that are already
being done on a contract basis
3. General job sites
Workopolis, monster and indeed are just
three of the more general sites that have
a wide range of postings
Again, check regularly so you can quickly
spot new possibilities and eliminate
unsuitable ones
4. Journalism-specific sites
j-source.ca has some postings
It’s also a good source for industry news
jeffgaulin.com lists jobs across the country
and breaks them down by region and
specialty
5. Looking farther afield
LinkedIn has started collecting every job
posted on the Internet for its own site
You can search by profession or by country,
and see how many people have applied
through the LinkedIn site
6. LinkedIn Student Job Option
LinkedIn also has a special area for entry-level
jobs that require less than six months’
experience
You can also see if there are any LinkedIn
connections in your network working there
Editor's Notes
A number of media organizations have job postings, like the CBC, the Globe and Mail and the Canadian Press. Checking them should be part of your daily routine. Long after I had my first jobs, I continued to look to see what was in demand and what skills I needed to develop.
