1. Always lock the doors and close the
windows when you go out, even if
you'll only be out for a short time.
2. All external doors should have 3
locking points. Mortice locks will add
considerable strength to your door – if
you are not sure how to fit them see
JLG or your local locksmiths.
3. Window locks can help to stop
people getting in, especially in older
windows and windows without double
glazing.
4. Use deadlocks if you have them -
they make it harder for thieves to get
out again.
5. If you are thinking of PVC or metal
framed doors/windows, make sure
they come with good built in locks and
a fitted chain, as these can be
expensive to add afterwards.
6. Patio doors should have special
locks fitted to the top and bottom –
ask JLG or your local locksmith for
advice.
7. Don't leave spare keys outside or in
a garage or shed if you do use a
dedicated and secure key box properly
fitted. JLG supply and install these.
8. Keep garden sheds, side gates and
garages locked with good quality
padlocks and hasps and think about
using a JLG battery-operated alarm.
9. Keep car and garage keys out of
sight in the house.
10. Don't leave window and door keys
in their locks.
11. Always draw your curtains at
night and make sure valuable items
cannot be easily seen from outside.

at the same time every day vary your
routine.
FACT

take place in the evening or night and
34% occur at the weekend.
13. Use timers for lights and radios if
you will be out of the house overnight.
They create the impression that
someone is at home. It is not
recommended to use TVs for this
purpose.
14. Visible burglar alarms, good
lighting and security lighting can be
 deterrents.

For a free survey call JLG or make sure the
installing company is NSI Gold accredited and that
you have a maintenance contract in place.
15. Think about connecting a smoke
detector to your intruder system as
this can call the fire brigade.
16. A connection to call the police,
fire brigade, key holding company or a
neighbour should be considered.
17. Particularly ensure that recessed
areas and doorways have good
security lighting.
18. Make sure that lights don't
disturb your neighbours and that
alarms turn off after 15 minutes. This
is now a regulation and you can be
landed with a fine.
19. Your security lighting can be used
in conjunction with a JLG CCTV
system and this can be viewed on a PC
or on your mobile phone.
20. Walls and solid fencing around
your house may let a thief break in
without being seen. Trees and shrubs
can also be hiding places.
21. Chain-link fencing or trellises
with prickly shrubs can be a better
compromise.
