This document contains readings and reflections for the fifth Sunday of Lent. It includes:
1. A summary of the Gospel reading about Christ and the woman caught in adultery.
2. Excerpts from the letter to the Philippians about forgetting what lies behind and straining toward what is ahead.
3. A reflection on having conquered outer space but not inner space, and splitting the atom but not prejudice.
Jesus began preaching that the kingdom of heaven is near and people must repent. Traditionally, it was presumed one had to be ethnically Jewish, male, religiously pure, healthy, and wealthy to enter God's kingdom. However, Jesus teaches a different set of blessings known as the Beatitudes. Rather than the religious elite being blessed, Jesus says the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, those who hunger for righteousness, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, and those persecuted for righteousness are truly well off as the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.

It was created by Katholos and includes music and photography.

The document describes a fable about the Christmas star. In the story, the most beautiful and prideful star is chosen to shine above the stable where Jesus will be born. However, when it sees the humble stable, it becomes angry and burns out due to its pride. The angels then choose the smallest and most humble star instead. Though it doubts its ability, it invites all the other stars to join it and together they create the most beautiful Christmas star ever seen, shining over the stable in humility and generosity. The moral of the story promotes humility over pride.
This poem describes the requests made of those observing Yom Kippur. In 3 sentences:
Yom Kippur asks observers to reflect on harms done in the past year, to believe in their own divinity and purity, and to fast from food so their soul can feast on faith. They are also asked to forgive others, remember those who have died, and have faith that a new morning will come even after a difficult night. The poem captures the solemn and spiritual themes of atonement and renewal central to the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur.
This poem describes the author's conception of God. In 3 sentences:
God fills the gaps in human imperfection and searches out forlorn sinners. He comes uninvited to match man's earthly passions with omnipresence, and moves in when all else have fled to stir wilted leaves to life. The poem depicts God as being as human as mathematics, reigning within the geometry of love without beginning or end to atone for human imperfection and worship man everywhere by making amends.

Seek to retire within yourself. For you cannot attend upon God and at the same time take delight in external things. A wonderful advice from 'Imitation of Christ', Books 3, 4.
This poem warns of the dangers of apostasy and losing one's faith. It describes how doubting thoughts can lead one astray down a "tunnel" away from God and toward the "devil". It says that this process happens slowly, as faith is "licking" away until one's spirit is "hollow". The poem suggests that by abandoning faith, one crucifies "the son again" and becomes "nothing but a fallen angel", segregated from heaven, with redemption no longer possible.
The document provides instructions for a nine-day novena to the Holy Spirit using meditations from St. John Eudes. It includes prayers to begin each day, such as calling on the Holy Spirit and prayers of contemplation. "And not to me only, but unto all them also that love His
appearing." — 2 Tim. iv. 8.
This is to my mind a very peculiar passage. It
contains an idea which is strikingly original and
deserves marked attention. Paul has been saying
that all through his Christian life he has been a
man of faith — has kept undimmed his belief in
the coming of a great revelation which shall make
all things clear, and, as the result of his faith, he
expects that in the future God will place a crown
on his head. But suddenly he goes on to say that
this crown will not be confined to the man of
unclouded faith ; it will be shared also by the man
of unclouded love.
This document contains excerpts from two short stories - "City of the Dead" and "Yerno". In "City of the Dead", the narrator encounters a strange man in an abandoned church who breathes life back into the narrator and gives them the power to pay tribute to him forever. In "Yerno", the main character Carlos finds themselves drawn to follow the demands of Yermo despite feeling fear in the situation. The document raises discussion questions about the meanings and significance of events in the stories, including the characters' motivations and the symbolic importance of locations like the church.

The document discusses God wanting believers to be extravagant in seeking lost souls. It provides several Bible verses on God's extravagant love for the lost, including leaving 99 sheep to find 1 lost sheep and throwing a celebration upon the return of a lost son. Believers are encouraged to have extravagant love like God by being patient, kind, forgiving and celebrating the lost finding their way instead of judging. The conclusion urges living extravagantly outward through God's transforming love and peace.
The document contains summaries of several well-known Christian hymns and songs that focus on themes of faith, redemption, salvation, and an enduring relationship with God even in the face of hardship.
This document contains a collection of quotes and reflections on various philosophical and spiritual topics. In 3 sentences:
The document touches on themes of nature, mindfulness, compassion, love and spirituality. It includes quotes and passages from figures like the Dalai Lama, Rumi, Einstein and others. Desires of the body and desires of the soul Mother Earth
The document discusses how awakening God-awareness and the soul can help transcend desires of the body and lead to greater love, happiness, and power. It states that even small acts of love for others can begin this soul-awakening process, allowing one to see the light within and transcend beyond physical concerns. Awakening to God-consciousness and the soul marks the beginning of ecstasy and taking steps toward one's own omnipotence.
With what two wills does each genuine Christian struggle? How have each of these wills impacted your life? What happens if we chose not to know the will of God? How do you discern the will of God? What is necessary in order to know God's will? Can a non-Christian know the will of God? Explain your answer. Does obeying the will of God avoid difficulties and pain? Explain. These and other questions are addressed in this biblical study.
This prayer asks God not to forsake those who feel abandoned and full of doubt, but to bring them life, nurture them, and sustain them even in death. It asks God to meet them in their deepest doubts and fears, and to let them experience God's mercy and grace during difficult times.
This poem describes the requests made of those observing Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement. In 3 sentences: It asks them to consider the harms they have caused others over the past year, to believe in their own divinity and purity of spirit, and to fast from food for a day so their soul can feast on faith while forgiving the past and believing that a new morning will come, no matter what they have done.
This document discusses forgiveness and bitterness. It provides characteristics of bitter people, such as always dwelling on the past. It then lists six commands for overcoming bitterness, such as watching gossip and emotions. The document outlines the cycle of bitterness and advises digging up the root of bitterness. Forgiveness is discussed as the alternative to bitterness, though it does not mean denying wrongs or enabling sin. Readers are prompted to consider who needs forgiveness from them and who they need to forgive.

This document contains notes and rules for disciples on the spiritual path. It discusses killing out ambition, desire for life and comfort, and the need to stand alone while also being non-separate. It emphasizes seeking the eternal light within and listening to the song of life. Later rules instruct to regard the hearts of men and one's own heart for illumination, and to attain knowledge and speech by inquiring of the earth, air, water, and holy ones. The final struggle is described as holding fast to that which is substanceless and invisible. Overall it provides guidance for disciples to progress from the outer material world to union with the divine.
This chapter discusses key concepts from the Tao Te Ching, including:
- The Tao that can be described is not the eternal Tao, and the name that can be named is not the eternal name.
- The Tao is formless and invisible yet exists everywhere. It existed before heaven and earth.
- The sage harmonizes with the Tao and follows the natural way without desire or personal intention.

The document aims to contextualize Longinus's ideas on the sublime and how aesthetic experiences can offer glimpses of divine transcendence.
Swami Vivekananda gives a call to youth for nation building and emphasizes developing faith and strength. He says true strength comes from within, not from others, and youth should not think themselves weak or limited. To succeed, one must have tremendous willpower and perseverance. Strong, sincere young men are needed to revolutionize the world. One must face challenges directly with courage and fight to the end without despair. Concentration of mind is key - one should focus single-mindedly on an ideal through intense effort and willpower to achieve great things in a shortened time.
Known as 'the Book of Love', Mary Magdalene witnessed of her teachings from her beloved Jesus after he was crucified. This esoteric Gospel became forbidden by the Catholic Church founders. Mary went to the South of France after the dead of Jesus and continued His real teachings a kind of underground. The carthars were finally all killed around 1300. And this Booklet of Love was hided and found back in the 1950's in Egypt, together with other scriptures, known as the 'Dead Sea Scrolls'.
This Book of Love is a universal and profound teaching, which you don't find anywhere. Although it speaks of the essence of our true nature, it clarifies very beautifully how the elements are related to our four 'verhicles'; namely body, soul, mind & spirit. And how to overcome their unenlightened nature; all in their own specific characters, so that we can establish our true nature and be free, in peace.
The document discusses three states of human consciousness in Sufism:
1. The Animal or Mammalian Self, Commanding to ‘Evil’ (Nafs-e-Ammara)
2. The Guilty Conscious Self (Nafs-e-Lawammah)
3. The Contented Self (Nafs-e-Mutmaeena)
It aims to educate disciples of Sufism in the gnosis of Allah and instruct those who love Allah in manners to be observed in His Holy Court. The document laments that many devotees have strayed from worshipping Allah and become engrossed in their lower selves instead.

Transcendentalism emphasized connecting with nature on a spiritual level to find deeper truths. It valued individualism and believed that society could corrupt people by focusing on materialism. Transcendentalist authors like Thoreau and Emerson sought the essential truths of life by living deliberately and being true to oneself rather than conforming to society. They found inspiration and meaning in nature and advocated nonconformity.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

For within you is the light of the world – the only light that can be shed upon the Path. If you are unable to perceive it within you, it is useless to look for it elsewhere. It is beyond you; because when you reach it you have lost yourself. It is unattainable, because it for ever recedes . You will enter the light, but you will never touch the flame.
5. The peace you shall desire is that sacred peace which nothing can disturb, in which the soul grows as does the holy flower upon the still lagoons. And that power which the disciple shall covet is that which shall make him appear as nothing in the eyes of men.
6. Seek out the way. Seek the way by retreating within. Seek the way by advancing boldly without. Seek it not by any one road…Seek it by plunging into the mysterious and glorious depths of your own being. Seek it by testing all experience…and seek it by making the profound obeisance of the soul to the dim star that burns within.
7. Look for the flower to bloom in the silence that follows the storm; not till then. It shall grow, it will shoot up, it will make branches and leaves and form buds, while the storm continues, while the battle lasts. But not till the whole personality of the man is dissolved and melted—not until it is held by the divine fragment which has created it, as a mere subject for grave experiment and experience—not until the whole personality has yielded and become subject unto its higher self can the bloom open.
8. The opening of the bloom is the glorious moment when perception awakes; with it comes confidence, knowledge, certainty. The pause of the soul is the moment of wonder, and the next moment of satisfaction.
9. The silence may last a moment of time or it may last a thousand years. But it will end. Yet you will carry its strength with you. Again and again, the battle must be fought and won. It is only for an interval that Nature can be still.
10. Stand aside in the coming battle, and though thou fightest, be not thou the warrior. Look for the Warrior and let him fight in thee. Take his orders for battle and obey them. Obey him not as though he were a general, but as though he were thyself, and his spoken words were the utterance of thy secret desires; for he is thyself, yet infinitely wiser and stronger than thyself.
11. Regard earnestly all the life that surrounds you. Learn to look intelligently into the hearts of men. Regard most earnestly your own heart. For through your own heart comes the one light which can illuminate life and make it clear to your eyes.
12. Study the hearts of men, that you may know what is that world in which you live and of which you will be a part. Regard the constantly changing and moving life which surrounds you, for it is formed by the hearts of men; and as you learn to understand their constitution and meaning, you will by degrees be able to read the larger word of life.
13. Inquire of the earth, the air, and the water, of the secrets they hold for you. Inquire of the Holy Ones of the earth of the secrets they hold for you. Inquire of the inmost, the One, of its final secret, which it holds for you through the ages.
14. It is written that for him who is on the threshold of divinity, no law can be framed, no guide can exist. Yet to enlighten the disciple, the final struggle may be thus expressed: Hold fast to that which has neither substance nor existence. Listen only to the voice which is soundless. Look only on that which is invisible alike to the inner and the outer sense.
