Jerzy Kukuczka was a famous Polish alpinist born in 1948 who was the first and only person to climb all fourteen eight-thousand meter peaks, including Everest, K2, Kangchenjunga, and Lhotse. He died in 1989 while attempting to climb Lhotse for the second time and was a deeply religious man who incorporated prayers about mountain climbing into his faith.
