The document tells the story of Ed and Floreen Hale who were married for 60 years. When Floreen fell ill and was hospitalized, Ed was also in another hospital dying from kidney failure. Against all odds, Ed rallied to be transported to Floreen's hospital so that he could see her one last time. Surrounded by family, Ed arrived at Floreen's bedside and she passed away, with Ed following the next day still by her side. The story illustrates the uncertainty and brevity of life, and emphasizes living each day for God and making one's relationships the priority.
This document discusses resolving conflicts in relationships. It notes that all couples fight in different ways due to unmet expectations and self-centeredness. When separated from their beloved, lovers long to be reunited. To resolve conflicts, one should focus on the good, act instead of reacting, talk instead of walking away, and settle matters through prayer and legal means if needed. Being less self-centered and honoring one's spouse can help overcome conflicts. Faith and working through issues can bring hope and renewal to relationships.
Cornelius, a Roman army officer, had a vision telling him to summon Simon Peter. Peter also had a vision showing him that Gentiles were not impure. When Cornelius' messengers found Peter, he went with them to Cornelius' house. Peter told them about Jesus and the Good News, and the Holy Spirit came upon the Gentiles as it had for the disciples. Peter concluded they must be baptized in Jesus' name.

This document discusses honoring one's mother through obedience, respect, appreciation, and forgiveness. It cites several Bible verses emphasizing the importance of honoring your father and mother. Children are instructed to obey their parents' instructions, accept them, and forgive them for their efforts and sacrifices. Honoring one's parents brings blessings and rewards while disobedience results in punishment. The key messages are to obey, respect, appreciate one's mother through listening, not neglecting her when old, and making her proud through wise decisions.
This document discusses the roles and responsibilities of fathers. It provides biblical passages that instruct fathers to give direction to their children, be a good example by following God, and love their family. It emphasizes that serving one's family should be a priority and that having a family that serves God and each other is the highest representation of God's image. The conclusion exhorts the reader to choose to serve God and make him and one's family the focus rather than many other distractions.
Jesus rebukes the disciples for trying to stop people from bringing children to him. He says the kingdom of God belongs to those who have childlike faith. He takes the children in his arms, lays hands on them, and blesses them.
This document contains excerpts from the Song of Songs describing a couple expressing their deep love and attraction for each other through poetic and metaphorical language. The man praises the woman's beauty from head to toe, comparing her hair to royal tapestry and her breasts to fruit clusters. The woman responds that she belongs to her beloved and desires to spend private time with him in the countryside.
The document discusses four categories of people - the godly poor, ungodly poor, godly rich, and ungodly rich. It notes that the godly poor should take pride in their high position with God, while the rich should recognize their wealth will fade. Jesus, though rich, became poor so believers could be rich. The godly poor will be exalted, while the ungodly rich will be humiliated. True identity and wealth comes from God, not material things. We should always remember God does not change, all gifts are from Him, and His greatest gifts are people. Godliness with contentment is true gain.
The document is a sermon about relationships before marriage. It discusses seasons of preparation and infatuation before marriage. It encourages pursuing intimacy through transparency, protecting purity by avoiding compromise, and preserving one's identity by staying close to God. This document discusses the importance of strong speaking about one's faith. It provides several biblical examples of figures like the Apostles and Paul who spoke boldly about their faith despite opposition. The document emphasizes that speaking strongly comes from believing deeply and having seen and experienced God. It encourages speaking to encourage others and lead them toward Christ as the Apostles did.
The document summarizes events from Acts 5:12-42 where the apostles continue preaching and performing signs and wonders, angering the religious authorities. As more people believe in Jesus, the sick are healed. The high priest arrests the apostles out of jealousy but an angel frees them. When brought before the Sanhedrin, Peter asserts they must obey God over man. Gamaliel persuades the Sanhedrin not to kill the apostles, but to flog them and forbid preaching in Jesus' name. The apostles rejoice at being counted worthy of suffering for Jesus.
This document discusses temptation and provides several analogies and examples. It begins by summarizing Jesus' temptation in the desert by Satan and notes that God does not tempt people but allows temptation to test and strengthen faith. It then provides three "truths" about temptation: 1) living with Jesus involves spiritual warfare against temptation, 2) temptation is not the same as sin, and 3) people are most vulnerable when hungry, isolated, or tired. The document uses the examples of Lance Armstrong and Israel Houghton to illustrate being tempted and either emerging victorious or falling to sin. It closes by urging people to run to Jesus when tempted and noting that temptation provides an opportunity to respond in faith.
The document discusses the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness and lessons that can be learned from it about temptation. It makes three key points:
1) A life with Jesus is spiritual warfare, and Satan will tempt anyone walking with Jesus.
2) Temptation is not the same as sin - it is an opportunity for victory, not defeat. Jesus was tempted but did not sin.
3) Temptation can be seen as a challenge or sporting event, where one can emerge victorious through God's power and staying steadfast against Satan's tactics. When temptation comes, one has the ability to resist through God's grace.
The document provides advice around discipline and instruction. It states that soldiers cannot be entangled in civilian affairs if they want to please their commander, and athletes must follow rules to be crowned. It encourages not rejecting discipline from God, and disciplining children for their benefit rather than harm. Discipline imparts wisdom while leaving a child to themselves brings disgrace. Children should obey parents as it pleases God, and fathers should raise children in the Lord's training instead of exasperating them. Anger should not lead to sin.
The document discusses Isaiah 9:6 and the description of God as the "Everlasting Father". It contrasts earthly fathers who are never satisfied, always angry, and seldom there, with our Everlasting Father as described in scripture. Our Everlasting Father is compassionate and gracious according to Psalm 103:8 and Matthew 11:28-29. He cares for us and has plans to prosper us according to Jeremiah 29:11. As per Hebrews 13:5, our Everlasting Father is always there and will never leave us nor forsake us.

Jesus told his disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit would give them power to be witnesses for Christ in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the entire world. The document discusses how the Holy Spirit gives believers power to share the gospel boldly, power when they are weak, and power to have hope and experience the fullness of God, enabling them to do what would otherwise be impossible.
The document discusses the top 10 causes of death globally in 2012 according to the WHO. CAD, which is caused by unhealthy diet and smoking, was the leading cause of death, claiming 7.4 million lives or 12.8% of all deaths. Stroke, the second leading cause, occurred when a brain artery is blocked or ruptured, taking 6.7 million lives or 10.8% of deaths. The third leading cause was lower respiratory infections like pneumonia and influenza, contributing to 6.1% of deaths.
The document contains several biblical passages from both the Old and New Testaments. It discusses Jesus healing those with lack of faith or illness, including healing a woman who was bleeding for 12 years and raising a synagogue leader's daughter from death. It also contains passages about God creating humanity, sin entering the world, Job suffering affliction from Satan, and forgiveness of sins through prayer.
Faith requires trusting God's power, standing on God's promises, and focusing on God's purpose. Whenever God restores something, He restores it to a greater state than before. True faith is demonstrated through works, and believers should work hard in order to present themselves before God and correctly explain His word to others, doing all things to represent Jesus and give thanks to God.
The disciples asked Jesus why they could not drive out a demon. Jesus responded that it was because of their small faith, and that if they had faith even as small as a mustard seed, they could move mountains.
Joseph was taken as a slave to Egypt, where he became successful because the Lord was with him. He found favor with his master and was put in charge of the household. The Lord blessed his master's house because of Joseph.
Joseph's master's wife tried to seduce him but he refused because it would be a sin. When she falsely accused him after he fled from her, he was thrown into prison. But the Lord was with Joseph and gave him favor with the jailer, putting
This document contains a summary of passages from Matthew 17:19-20 and Genesis 39 about having faith and faith that works. It discusses that faith without works is dead, and gives examples of Joseph having faith even when faced with temptation. It encourages the reader to apply God's word, bear God's image in all they do, and give their best for God's glory. Faith requires action on our part for God to work and bring about answered prayers.
The disciples were unable to cast out a demon and asked Jesus why. Jesus responded that it was because of their small faith, saying that even a tiny amount of faith could move mountains. Jesus then told a parable about a prodigal son who wasted his inheritance and returned home seeking forgiveness. The father welcomed his son back with open arms and celebrated his return, angering the older son who was jealous of the welcome. The parable teaches about God's forgiveness and mercy for those who repent.
This document discusses faith and restoration through several Bible passages. It notes that faith is not knowing what will happen but knowing God will hold the future. Extraordinary life comes from God's power combined with our faith. It references the parable of the prodigal son to show how God restores what was broken when we have faith. Faith gives hope and responding to circumstances with faith allows God to work. God restores things to a place greater than before when we place our brokenness in his hands through faith.
1) The document outlines a weekly topics series on faith that will cover how faith matters, restores, works, heals, unites and builds.
2) It examines the story of Job who endured great suffering and loss but maintained his faith in God, and was restored twofold by God for his faithfulness.
3) Key aspects of faith discussed include trusting in God's power, standing on his promises, and keeping the focus on his greater purpose even in times of pain. Faith unleashes God's power and is necessary to please him.
The document describes Job's situation before and after his trials of faith. Before his trials, Job had significant wealth and family, including 7 sons and 3 daughters. However, during his trials, Job lost all his possessions and his children died. After responding to his trials with faith, God restored Job's fortunes, giving him double what he had before - 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. Job also had 7 more sons and 3 more daughters and lived to be 140 years old.
