Naples is described as having beautiful buildings covered in graffiti with laundry often hung outside on balconies. The mafia controls rubbish export and the land near Mount Vesuvius is fertile with three harvests per year. Capri historically belonged to Naples and its beauty stunned the Roman emperor Augustus. Rome has buildings from 2000 years ago but rubbish and graffiti detract from its appearance. Stores close at 9pm on Saturdays and the author lived in an apartment with a large balcony overlooking the city center.
