Muhammad was born in Mecca in 570 CE and established Islam after experiencing a calling from God at age 40. He preached about the oneness of God and caring for the poor in Mecca, facing opposition from tribal leaders. In 622 CE, Muhammad and his followers migrated from Mecca to the city of Yathrib, later called Medina, establishing the first mosque and founding the Islamic calendar. Although initially welcomed in Medina, Jewish tribes rejected Muhammad's prophetic claims, leading him to establish Islam as a separate religion.
