Intel developed an experimental 48-core processor called the Single Chip Cloud Computer (SCC). The SCC had 48 processing cores on a single chip and was designed to function similarly to a small computing cluster with 5 to 10 nodes. The SCC was an early research prototype exploring many integrated cores on a chip for cloud and parallel computing.
