During the Mexican-American War in 1846-1848, Mexican generals ordered young military cadets to retreat from Chapultapec castle as U.S. troops broke through barriers in Mexico City. Mexicans celebrate independence from Spain every September 16th with "El Grito". Each November 20th, Mexicans commemorate the 1910-1920 Mexican Revolution, known as Día de la Revolución or el veinte de noviembre.
