i-Lacera 5500 Tear Tester—Composite Film Test
Scope
i-Lacera 5500 Tear Tester is designed for determination of tearing resistance properties of flexible PVC, POF, PET,
composite films, sheets, paper or paper board, textiles and non-woven and etc. It could not be used to test nylon,
extensional films and other rigid materials.
Test Procedures
A: Prepare test specimen according to specific standards. 5 groups of specimens are required for both length direction and
transverse direction and tear direction should be denoted on the specimen.

B: Level the instrument. Balance the instrument level and do several blank tests without specimen.

C: Set up test parameters and specimen parameters. Clamp specimen and do trail test. Check and select proper test range.
Observe whether the tear force is within 20%-80% of the upper limit of test range. Otherwise it is necessary to change the
number of layers of specimen or change the extra weights. The instrument should be adjusted and balanced after the extra
weight is changed. Change the capacity of pendulum in Preset menu. The test range could be extended to 800 gf with a
basic pendulum of 200 gf and it could be extended to 6400 gf with a pendulum of 1600 gf.

D: Start the test and record the test data. When testing constant-radius specimen, if the tear line is beyond the range of the
constant radius area, the test should be abandoned. Add a new qualified specimen to replace the abandoned specimen and
perform the test again. When testing rectangle specimen, if the tear line is more than 10 mm away from the cut slit line, the
test should be abandoned and another test with new specimen should be performed. If all the tear lines are more than 10
mm away from cut slit line, please use constant-radius specimens to perform the tests. Test reports could be viewed in
online data management system.
