4. 1985In Toys R Us I came across Ultima IVThis is where my love affair with Ultima blossomed.
6. 1988I finished Ultima IV and then immediately started playing Ultima V.Back then when you finished, you would write in to Origin and receive Avatar certificate.
7. 1990Went off to college and bought first IBM PC and passed on Ultima VI obsession to roommatesWrote batch files so that there could be “multiple” save files.
8. 1992Later moved into my own apartment and upgraded to an IBM 386, which brought Ultima VII, parts I & II.
9. 1992 - CreditsNoticed the main menu had “credits”.When you watch all the credits, you get quotes from the dev team.What? There’s a Dev Team. That’s when I decided I wanted to get into the game industry.Read all kind of game programming books & started a lot of armature games.
10. 1993Got a job in IT / Database programming at a disk duplication companyDuplicated Origin’s games: Strike Commander
11. 1996Mail out for Ultima Online, which I inserted myself onto.Received tour of Origin by friend of a friend, Jeff Hillhouse.
12. 1996 - Job OfferLater found out he was Origin’s first employee and currently in charge of IT & Facilities.He offered me a job in IT and turned down. Said I would be bitter not having a programming job and I would need to get to Origin on my programming skills.
13. 1996 - Focus Group TesterSecond brush with Origin was as a focus group tester for .Biggest beef was that all the actors were speaking in Brittish accents and you couldn’t understand what they were saying.
14. 1996 - PalquesSaw on the wall a plaque which was a golden disc award. Looking a lot like a “gold record.”Said to myself that I was going to make myself a plaque for each game I made.
15. 1998Got my first job in the game industry in 1998, shipping Close Combat 3 & 4.Plaque of Close Combat 3.

17. 2000 - Jeff HillhouseReduxOn first day of work, walked into big open room with a lot of used furniture with the head of facilities, Jeff Hillhouse.It had been 5 years since I last saw him, “Well, I said I had to get here on my own merits. Well, here I am.”
18. 2001Sad time. Richard Garriot had just left (taking all his video games with him)Later that year: Ultima Online 2 was canceled, where they fired the entire 4th floor.
19. 2003EA.com bubble burst and Origin was shut down. We moved to Orlando where Tiburon was is rapid growth.But I can always say my dream did come true, even if it was at the end of a great video game company.
