2. Test takers can choose between IELTS Academic and
IELTS General training, depending on their academic or
professional aspirations, or visa requirements.
IELTS Academic have subject matter and tasks suitable
for the test takers entering undergraduate or post
graduate studies while IELTS general is meant for
immigration aspirants.

3. GENERAL TRAINING SECTIONS
Listening (30 minutes + 10 minutes)
Reading (60 minutes)
Writing (60 minutes)
Speaking (11-14 minutes)

4. LISTENING
40 questions
4 sections
30minutes duration, extra 10 minutes are provided.

5. READING
Test takers read extracts from the newspapers,
advertisements, instruction manuals etc.
40 questions in 60 minutes duration and has 3
sections

6. WRITING
The General training version includes two tasks, and is
based on topics of general interest.
60 minutes duration for the two tasks.

7. SPEAKING
Consists of 3 sections
Assesses the test taker’s use of spoken English, and
takes between 11-14 minutes to complete.
