 We believe that the Iranian
Diasporas are a most valuable
resource for both the host country
and Iran, which requires to be better
utilised

 Psychiatrists of Iranian heritage and cultural
connections
 promote the development of psychiatry both in
Iran and UK
1. 30 Members with 5 Honorary Members,
2. All Iranian psychiatrists including psychiatric trainees,
3. Medical students interested in psychiatry
4. Psychiatrists from the regions with culturo-linguist
similarities; including Pakistan, Afghanistan and
Tajikistan,
5. Peter Hughes, Hashim Reza, Prof K. Ashkan
Logo - tenth century Persian physician Avicenna; who famously
described treatment of clinical lycanthropy and ‘love sickness’.
Motto - poem by thirteen century Persian poet Rumi, loosely
translated to ‘no health without mental health’.
In Iran
i. To establish links with relevant psychiatric institutions.
ii. Collaboration with these institutions in term of
research, education, in advisory capacity, long distance
learning/supervision, etc.
iii. Establish links with governmental and NGOs for
disaster relief; e.g. with Red Cross/Crescent and the
Ministry of Health.
iv. Members training and teaching on how to manage
disasters. Training for PTSD.
In UK
i. Mentorship for Iranian Psychiatrists.
ii. Establish links with allied mental health professionals
and allied medical disciplines (neurology, neurosurgery,
and neuroscientists)
iii. Encourage other Iranian medical disciplines to establish
Diaspora committees.
iv. Undertake works with charities
v. Bring Iranian psychiatrists over for periods of
observation, training or service provision

Schizophrenia Day Centre focusing on the recovery approach.
 Met with Dr. Velayati, former Foreign Minister and the President
of the Center for Strategic Research

▪ development of Older Adult services
▪ using tools for the diagnosis of autism at the University of Tehran.
 Lectures on ‘Community Psychiatry’
 Workshops on ‘Family Therapy’ and Alcohol
 Roozbeh Hospital (University of Tehran)
 Imam Hospital, to advice on their inpatient
psychosomatic facility
