In this book summary of Hungerby: Michael Grant, it has been 3 months since all adults disappeared from a town now isolated by an invisible barrier called the Fayz. Inside the Fayz, some children are developing powerful supernatural abilities while struggling for control and resources. Sam, with the power of fire, leads the normals but finds it difficult as rival Caine gains followers with his telekinetic powers. They must also face threats from the malevolent Darkness entity that feeds on nuclear energy and controls some children. In the climactic battle, Sam, Caine and other ability users finally unite to defeat the Darkness, but not before many lives are lost.

2. About the book In this book, it has been 3 months since all of the adults, and teens 15 and up disappeared. Since the occurrence of the Fayz, many more people are gaining new and amazing powers. But Sam’s is the best so far. His power is to shoot green rays of fire, out of his hands. And now he is in charge, but he is having a lot of trouble and doesn’t want to be in charge anymore. Caine is also a very powerful mutant. He has the power to pick up and throw things, without using his hands, but he is evil. Everyone is against each other, and there are many fights occurring throughout the Fayz, but one thing all of them are trying to overcome, THE DARKNESS. In the end, the bad guys, and the good guys somewhat get together and defeat the horrid Darkness. Now all that’s left to do is find food, stop fights, fix the cities, heal everyone, and figure out how to get the parents and older siblings back. 4. Sam and Astrid Sam- “Freak”, The leader of the Fayz, level 4- power to shoot fire out of his hands. Astrid- “Normal”, Girlfriend of Sam, Smartest girl in the Fayz. Feeds off of nuclear energ.

5. Caine and Diana Caine- “Freak” Leader of his pack- Diana, Drake, Jack, and help, Brother of Sam, also level 4- Power to move heavy objects with his brain. Diana- “ Normal”, follows Caine and his plans, ‘Convinces’ People to join there group.

6. Brianna, Dekka, Taylor Brianna- “Freak”, level 3- power to run at the speed of a bullet, Helps Sam whenever he needs it. Dekka- “Freak”, also level 3- power to take gravity off of objects for a certain length of time, Helps Sam get to Caine Taylor- “Freak”, level 3- Power to transport from place to place in the blink of an eye.

7. Jack and Drake Jack- “Freak”, level 3- the power of super strength, Does everything Diana tells him to do, Computer nerd Drake- “Freak”, has no real powers, but has an arm like a whip(from the Darkness), Helps Caine, but wants to defeat everyone and become the leader.

Albert and Quinn Albert- “Normal”, owns the only McDonalds and club in the Fayz, wants to find a new currency system to get people to work better, Listens to Sam Quinn- “Normal”, used to be best friends with Sam, switched sides back and forth, but currently on Sam’s side, in charge of fishing, so people can survive

9. Edilio and Lana Edilio- “Normal”, helps Sam in everything he does, in charge of the “army”, is killed by Drake in the battle Lana- “Freak”, level 3- power to heal people with touch, also called healer by many, including The Darkness, which she becomes slave to.

Duck and Little Pete Duck- “Freak”, level 3- power to change his density, also called “Human Drill” in the end helps Sam and Caine defeat The Darkness, but dies Little Pete- “Freak”, most powerful of them all, but has mental problems and is under the control of The Darkness, level 5- power to do many things such as teleport, Brother of Astrid

11. The Darkness Feeds off of nuclear energy. Has control over Little Pete, Caine, Lana, and Drake. Lana tries to defeat it but ends up becoming slave to it. In the end is defeated by Caine, Sam, Duck, Brianna, Taylor, Dekka, and Duck.
