Des travaux ont montré que la nature du contrat influence le choix des consommateurs (Gerpott, 2009; Mitomo et al., 2009), nos estimations montrent qu’elle influence la relation entre la voix et le texte. Notamment, les SMS agiraient comme complément de la voix pour les postpayés alors qu’ils n’influenceraient pas ou alors négativement l’émission de voix des prépayés. Cette relation différente s’expliquerait en partie par les externalités d’appel qui sont plus importantes chez les postpayés. Ces résultats donnent une explication aux divergences observées dans la littérature et souligne l’importance de prendre en compte les externalités de communication dans la modélisation des usages sur ce type de marché.

Sur un marché de la téléphonie mobile proche de la saturation, l’objectif de chaque opérateur est de fidéliser ses abonnés tout en attirant les clients des opérateurs concurrents. Cet objectif est d’autant plus facilement atteint que les abonnés sont prêts à recommander leur opérateur mobile. Cet article s’attache à identifier les facteurs qui influencent la recommandation par les abonnés de leur opérateur de téléphonie mobile. À partir d’une enquête menée auprès de 10 926 abonnés des trois opérateurs mobiles français, nous montrons que le prix et la qualité des services, de la couverture réseau et de la relation client sont les principaux déterminants de la propension à recommander. En revanche, la variété des offres et la qualité du conseil sur celles-ci ainsi que les effets club ne semblent pas jouer un rôle significatif dans le processus de recommandation.
