name. Stephen King has a modest but
undeniable genius for being able to find
horror in everyday situations. Directed
by Rob Reiner, the film received critical
acclaim for Bates's performance as the
psychopathic Annie Wilkes, and Bates
won the 1990 Academy Award for Best
Actress for her role, making Misery, as
of 2015, the only Stephen King
adaptation to be an Oscar winning film.
The film was ranked #12 on Bravo's
100 Scariest Movie Moments.

Carrie is a 1976 American supernatural
horror film based on the 1974 novel of
the same name by Stephen King.
Directed by Brian De Palma and written
by Lawrence D. Cohen, the film received
two Academy Award nominations, one
for Sissy Spacek in the title role and one
for Piper Laurie as her abusive mother.
It brought the gore and scares
associated with the genre but it also
gave us two electrifying, Oscar-
nominated performances and a script
that was embued with genuine pathos.
Halloween H20
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later is a
1998 American slasher horror film
and seventh installment in the
Halloween film series. It was directed
by Steve Miner and starred Jamie Lee
Curtis, LL Cool J, Josh Hartnett, and
Michelle Williams. Laurie Strode, now
the dean of a Northern California
private school with an assumed name,
must battle the Shape one last time
and now the life of her own son hangs
in the balance.
The Strangers
The Strangers is a 2008 American
horror film written and directed
by Bryan Bertino and starring Liv
Tyler and Scott Speedman as a
young couple who are terrorized
by three masked assailants, who
break into the remote summer
home and destroy all means of
escape or calling for help by
destroying their car, cell phones,
and phone line.
The Bay
The Bay is a 2012 American found
footage horror film, directed by
Barry Levinson and written by
Michael Wallach. It premiered at
the 2012 Toronto International
Film Festival and was released in
theaters on November 2, 2012. The
darker side of summer movies
continues with this skin-crawling
horror film that follows what
happens to a small community
when a flesh-eating parasite finds
its way into the water supply on
the Fourth of July.
The Others
The Others (Spanish: Los Otros) is a
2001 Spanish-American horror film
written, directed, and scored by
Alejandro Amenábar. It stars Nicole
Kidman and Fionnula Flanagan. A
woman who lives in a darkened old
house with her two photosensitive
children becomes convinced that her
family home is haunted. The film
won eight Goya Awards, including
awards for Best Film and Best
Director. This was the first English-
language film ever to receive the
Best Film Award at the Goyas.
The House Of The Devil
Sam is a pretty college sophomore,
so desperate to earn some cash for
a deposit on an apartment that she
accepts a babysitting job even after
she finds out there is no baby.
Director Ti West's movies might
not be for the average horror fan.
The House of the Devil, in
particular, is an exercise in tension-
building, an experiment in how
long you can "bore" your audience
before pulling the trigger.
Sinister
This supernatural horror film had
audiences quivering in their seats upon
its release to theaters in 2012. The film
features Ethan Hawke as a father and
struggling author moving his family into
a new home, not expecting the horrors
that would soon ensue. Coming across
old photos and video reels, he begins to
research the origin of the house and its
previous inhabitants. However, he is
shocked to find footage of murders
happening right on his own newly
purchased property. Just as his
discoveries begin to amplify, and he
notices a frightening demonic figure in
each reel, mysterious and frightening
events begin to occur around him and his
family.

film[2] starring Kate Hudson, Gena
Rowlands, John Hurt, Peter
Sarsgaard, and Joy Bryant. This
contemporary supernatural
thrilled, set largely in the dark
atmospheric backwoods just
outside of New Orleans, stars
Hudson as a live-in nurse hired to
care for an elderly woman's
(Rowlands) ailing husband (Hurt)
in their home...a foreboding and
decrepit mansion in the Louisiana
delta.

Omen: 666) is a 2006 remake of
Richard Donner's The Omen.
Directed by John Moore and written
by David Seltzer, the film stars Julia
Stiles, Liev Schreiber, and Mia
Farrow. A remake of the 1976
horror classic The Omen (1976), an
American official realizes that his
young son may literally be the devil
incarnate.
