Carissa learned her Cantonese name, 姬嘉麗 (Gei Ka-Lai), during her trip to Hong Kong. She was impressed by Hong Kong's clean metro system and amazing shopping malls, markets, and food courts serving huge portions at low prices. The culture is influenced by Confucian values while also being westernized. Hong Kong has a beautiful skyline and tropical climate but also shows extremes of affluence and poverty existing on the same streets. Carissa contrasts Hong Kong to mainland China, describing the latter as bigger, greyer, and more spread out.
