The Holocaust was a genocide during World War II in which Nazi Germany, aided by its collaborators, systematically murdered some 6 million European Jews, around two-thirds of the Jewish population of Europe, between 1941 and 1945. The Nazis also targeted other groups because of their perceived racial and biological inferiority, such as Roma people, ethnic Poles, Soviet citizens, Soviet prisoners of war, people with disabilities, and Jehovah's Witnesses. Millions of people were murdered in the Holocaust, constituting one of the largest genocides in modern history.
