The animal shelter in Stephens County has limited resources and space, resulting in poor conditions that pose health risks. Hundreds of animals are euthanized each month with little chance of adoption due to the decaying, unsanitary facility being unable to properly house and care for the large number of stray animals. The city manager called the current facility "not representative" of their community and priorities, and advocated for a new animal shelter to provide humane care and increase adoptions.
