This document discusses the results of a study on the effects of meditation on the brain. Brain scans of participants before and after an 8 week meditation training program showed increased gray matter in the hippocampus, which governs learning and memory. Additional areas associated with compassion and self awareness also saw increased gray matter. The results suggest that meditating can alter brain structure and function in ways that encourage emotional wellbeing and mental clarity.
