John Gregg’s Gaffe?
Former gubernatorial candidate
John Gregg has been “clarifying”
some statements made about a
possible run for Governor run in
2016. The Corydon Democrat
reported this week that Gregg told
the Harrison County Jefferson-
Jackson Day Dinner crowd that he
was running. However, he told the
AP Wednesday that he was taken
out of context and when he said he
wanted to “keep going” on the
campaign trail he was just a light-
hearted response to an excited
County Chairman’s introduction.
We also are told that Gregg hasn’t
communicated with current
Democratic Chairman John Zody
about running for Governor. And
word on the street is that Joe
Donnelly and Evan Bayh are
pushing for former 9th
CD
Congressman Baron Hill.
Moudock’s Maalox Moment
TCS is hearing that State Treasurer
Richard Mourdock may be looking
at a run for Auditor as he is term-
limited. That is giving some GOP
insiders indigestion. They are
worried that Mourdock on the
ballot at the same time as a

possible amendment banning gay
marriage could end up with the
GOP suffering major losses down
the ticket.
Speaking of Auditor, here are the
current list of names we’re hearing
on the GOP side. Brownsburg Town
Council President Dwayne Sawyer,
Cecelia Coble of Fishers, Michael
McQuillen City-County Council,
John McAuley Allen County
Recorder, Some local Government
folks trying to talk Tera Klutz, Allen
County Auditor into doing it as
well. We did some follow up with
McQuillen. His folks say he is
focusing on an Indianapolis City-
County Council majority and has
raised at least $50,000 toward that
goal.
SB 621, Part Deux
TCS is hearing there may be
another version of the famous, or
should we say, infamous, SB 621
on its way next session. We’re not
sure exactly what it would do, but
it could end straight ticket voting
as it currently exists in Marion
County and alter the rules. Stay

Look for a big announcement next
week from Marion Mayor Wayne
Seybold regarding statewide office.
Talley Ho!
Lawrence Township Trustee Russell
Brown officially announced he was
not running for re-election.
However, his replacement will
reportedly be Indianapolis City-
County Council member, Steve
Talley. Talley is a former CCC
President. However, he may have
some issues, as since the job of a
Trustee is too administer poor
relief, however, Talley has not had
the best reputation lately of
helping the poor and downtrodden.

Smoking Ban May Go Up in
Flames
Apparently there’s a hidden legal
issue with Indianapolis’ smoking
ban. The problem TCS hears is the
enforcement component. The way
it was explained to us was that
Under the ordinance, the Marion
County Health Department has
enforcement authority, however,
there’s a legal question as to
whether the Department has the
legal authority to enforce city-
county ordinances. So what does
that all mean, a couple of
things. If someone has been fined
by the Health Department (and
very few people have) the fine may
get tossed out. Also, if you own a
private club and had to notify
public health that you had to stay
smoking or non-smoking in order
to keep smoking then that may not
be valid as well. A giant cluster---
-- you know what may be coming
on this one. Stay tuned!
Cold Beer Suit Gets Quiet
Warm Reception
You might know that the Indiana
Petroleum and Convenience Store
Association filed a federal lawsuit
to allow cold beer sales in grocery
and convenience stores and
pharmacies. TCS is told there are
a lot of lawmakers who are
privately supporting the deal, even
though they have voted against
cold beer sales in the past. The
lawmakers are hoping the courts
will do (declare Indiana’s
prohibition on cold beer sales) to
be unconstitutional so they don’t
have to vote on it. They could use
more liquid courage!

No More Madame President?
TCS has been hearing from
multiple sources that City-County
Council President Maggie Lewis is
NOT running for Council President
next year. We’ve heard multiple
reasons but the big two that keep
coming back is that she is tired and
her caucus has not been happy
with her leadership. The likely
person to replace her is John
Barth, at-large Councilor.
HEADS UP!!!
Look for a major GOP contender for
the 2016 Presidential race to show
up in Indiana later this summer.
FYI…
We’re hearing that Joe Hogsett
may not have his eye on running
for Mayor of Indianapolis after all,
but something else. We hope to
find out by the next Cheat Sheet.
