Heracles was tasked with stealing the golden apples from the garden of the Hesperides, which was guarded by a 100-headed dragon named Ladon. He caught the sea god Nereus to learn the garden's location. When he arrived, Heracles tricked Atlas into retrieving the apples by offering to hold up the heavens temporarily in his place. However, when Atlas returned, Heracles tricked him again into resuming his burden while Heracles made his cloak comfortable, allowing Heracles to escape with the apples.
