Herbalife is a global nutrition company that saw 18% revenue growth in 2012 and continued momentum in 2013. This led them to begin construction of a new $100 million manufacturing and distribution hub in North Carolina. For this project, Herbalife embraced GE's operational excellence approach. Herbalife recently issued a purchase order for almost a quarter million dollars to GE for software to monitor quality and efficiency at the new plant. GE staff helped set up a system at Herbalife's existing California plant, impressing them with the software's functionality. With help from the extended GE team, a challenging deal was closed in the third quarter.

Herbalife Fuels Champions, GE-IP Fuels Herbalife
October 2013
Herbalife is a global nutrition company that has helped people pursue a healthy, active life since
1980. Demand for its products led Herbalife to an 18% increase in revenue in 2012, and the
momentum has carried over to 2013. In response, Herbalife began construction on a $100 million
manufacturing and distribution hub in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at the former site of a Dell
facility. For this greenfield initiative, Herbalife embraced GE-IP’s message of operational excellence
to drive increased line efficiency and asset utilization for a modern production facility.
Last week, Herbalife issued close to a quarter of a million dollar purchase order to GE-IP for a Gold
CD for Proficy Plant Applications software to track and monitor quality and efficiency at the new
plant. This is a direct enterprise transaction for the Software team. Another purchase order will be
issued next week for GlobalCare support.
After several compelling presentations, the customer agreed to participate in a pilot. Again, the
initiative stalled when Herbalife could not secure adequate funding for the pilot. Will Doherty
invested two weeks of his time to set up a full-blown system at Herbalife’s manufacturing facility in
Lake Forest, CA. The customer was impressed with the out-of-the box functionality of GE-IP
software. Will and Coleman Easterly supported Herbalife’s Engineering team through the detailed
design and Integration vendor selection phase of the project.
With the help of the extended GE team, we were able to navigate some very challenging last-
minute negotiations with the Herbalife procurement and legal teams to close this order in the 3rd
quarter.
