Henry Hudson was an English sea explorer hired by the Dutch East India Company to find a passage to Asia by sailing north of Russia or through the Great Lakes, though he was stopped by ice. During his voyage on the ship Halve Maen, Hudson's crew mutinied and set him adrift in 1611 with his son and others, intending to kill them, though some crew members were later arrested.
