 Some states have titling for boats and others do not. Hawaii only
does Registration.
 New vessel titling policies and procedures are planned to go into
effect July 1, 2021.
 Go to the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of
Boating & Ocean Recreation (DLNR DOBOR) to get these
 Boat Registration Numbers in Hawaii start with the letters “HA”
 The Reg. No. must be displayed on the hull with a registration sticker

HULL ID Number location
A “State assigned” hull ID
would have the letters
“HAZ” in its 12 character
HIN. All others would have
the manufacturer code
instead.
Liens In Hawaii
 Claims, Liens or Security interests on any non-documented boats
are recorded with DOBOR in the State of Hawaii
 DOBOR implemented vessel titling on July 1, 2021. Hawaii vessel
titles will now display whether a lien is attached to the vessel
named in the title, excluding mechanic’s liens.
 If the vessel is USCG documented, a lender’s security interests will
be recorded with the National Vessel Documentation Center
(NVDC) (ordered at boat-abstract.com)
