HAMILTON - A REVOLUTIONARY MUSICAL
Michael Schamis
INTRODUCTION
 A sales and marketing analyst by profession, Michael Schamis
enjoys attending the theater in his free time. Michael Schamis
and his wife strive to see as many Broadway plays and musicals
as they can each year.
Since its opening on Broadway in 2015, the musical Hamilton has
established itself as a revolutionary piece of popular theater. It
tells the story of U.S. founding father Alexander Hamilton, a
Caribbean-born immigrant who went on to become one of the
most influential yet controversial figures of the American
Revolution.
Composer and lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda developed the show
from Ron Chernow's 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton, which
told of his passionate political career as well as his famous illicit
affair and complex family life.
HAMILTON MUSICAL
 Miranda envisioned this story told through hip-hop
rhythms and a variety of other contemporary musical
styles, and the journey of the Hamilton musical began.
Hamilton appeared on the stage cast primarily with actors
of color, a creative choice that makes not only the musical
but American history itself accessible to a broader
audience. Casting and music alike tell theatergoers that
the show is for all, regardless of racial and cultural
background. This accessibility also serves to emphasize
the relevance of the political and interpersonal drama
within the show, a theme that is of particular interest to
theatergoers in the United States today.
