HIV/AIDS is a disease that attacks the immune system. It is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) which can be transmitted through contact with infected bodily fluids like blood, semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk. If not treated, HIV can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), the final stage of HIV infection where the immune system is severely damaged leaving a person vulnerable to opportunistic infections.
